The Kansas City Chiefs’ offensive signings in the 2024 offseason continue.
The Kansas City Chiefs Intent On Bolstering Their Offense For The 2024 Season
Having bought in Hollywood Brown to beef up a receiving corps that lacked both strength and depth, and which lost Marques Valdez Scantling this offseason, towards the start of free agency, the Chiefs have since signed former Cincinnati Bengals and Minnesota Vikings tight end, Irv Smith Jr., Welsh rugby star – projected receiver/running back weapon, Louis Rees Zammit, and most recently, former Pro Bowl and All-Pro Super Bowl champion quarterback, Carson Wentz.
Now, however, it seems they are going back to their own; which, in fairness, did bring them back-back Lombardi trophies – and 3 over the past 4 years; and are re-signing their former 1st round pick who has struggled to consistently produce, per Ian Rapoport.
The #Chiefs have agreed to terms with their former first-round pick Clyde Edwards-Helaire on a 1-year deal, sources say. Their starter until midway through 2022 is back for another shot. pic.twitter.com/RpxrXppmjm

Clyde Edwards-Helaire Remaining With The Kansas City Chiefs
After being the 1st back selected in the 2020 draft, CEH has failed to live up to the pedigree of a 1st round pick, and has been unable to demonstrate bona fide capability as a number 1 running back in the NFL.
Ever since former 7th round draft pick, Isaiah Pacheco, took the reins on the Kansas City backfield back midway through the 2022 season, the Chiefs have seen a vastly improved rushing attack compared to the prior 2.5 years with Helaire at the helm.
However, from his time at LSU and glimpses shown over the first 2 seasons, it is clear that Clyde Edwards Helaire has the potential to be a very real dual-threat attack for any NFL team, and his lack of touches, “wear and tear” will only be considered a positive to the KC brass.
Will he be taking Pacheco’s spot as the reigning Super Bowl champion’s lead back any time soon, unlikely. Could he play an important secondary role in the Kansas City Chiefs’ upcoming title defense – absolutely.
