‘Rigged’: The Kansas City Chiefs O-Line Hasn’t had a Single Holding Penalty in 3 Super Bowls

The Kansas City Chiefs beat the San Francisco 49ers in a thrilling 25-22 overtime victory, and it marked the third consecutive Super Bowl in which the Kansas City Chiefs offensive line was not called for a single holding penalty.

The offense was called for a holding penalty just once in the three Super Bowls. Former Kansas City Chiefs Wide receiver Byron Pringle was called for a holding penalty when the Chiefs beat the 49ers in the Super Bowl for the first time in 2019. There were over nine minutes left in the third quarter when the penalty was called on Pringle.

The Kansas City Chiefs got away with a few holds in Super Bowl 58

Although some argue that they would prefer for the refs to keep their flags on their person in big games like the Super Bowl, there were a few scenarios in which the Kansas City Chiefs should have been called for holding, yet they were not.

San Francisco 49ers edge rusher Nick Bosa even said before the game that the Kansas City Chiefs offensive line holds a lot. When asked about Chiefs tackles Jawaan Taylor and Donovan Smith by The Athletic’s David Lombardi, Bosa said “They hold a lot.”

49ers CEO Jed York agreed with Bosa’s analysis before the Super Bowl in an article from NFL.com

“I remember Nick Bosa getting held on third-and-long and that not getting called,” York said Thursday, via KNBR. “But it’s football. I should say this, I haven’t talked to anybody with Detroit, but I feel for them when you’re in a situation where you’re up and you think you can win a game and make it memorable and things go the wrong way. I’ve been on good sides of that and I’ve been on bad sides of that. When you’re up by 10 points against a team in a Super Bowl, thoughts are going through your head like, We’re going to have a parade, somebody’s going to Disneyland, this is going to be awesome, and then you don’t.”

Taylor led the NFL in offensive penalties in 2023, playoffs included, according to NFL Research. His 20 offensive penalties were eight more than any other player in the NFL, yet Taylor still managed to go throughout the entire Super Bowl without committing a single holding penalty.

Taylor’s 26 holding penalties over the last five seasons lead the NFL as well. Smith, who is on the other side of the ball, is not far behind Taylor with the third-most holding penalties in the last five NFL seasons. Smith also managed to escape a holding call in the Super Bowl.

How did the chiefs not get a single holding penalty called on them all superbowl when Bosa was out here like this pic.twitter.com/4YxcZEhfp3

No holding call here. 1st down chiefs pic.twitter.com/kCsPYCsnQR

3rd in 6 in overtime, no call on a Fred Warner hold that would have changed the outcome of the game, holding and tackling players rushing the QB has always been a penalty it just hasn’t been for the chiefs dynasty pic.twitter.com/p5HGd7iI0p

This was a really bad missed holding that ended up helping the Chiefs get 3 points. pic.twitter.com/5P78OXRS5k

Many NFL fans claimed the missed holding calls mean the NFL is ‘rigged’ for the Kansas City Chiefs

While cries of a ‘rigged NFL come out from opposing fans after nearly every close big game, the cries are a little bit louder this time around.

With the introduction of a big money maker like Taylor Swift, the boyfriend of Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, more and more fans are beginning to question the integrity of the NFL.

When this is combined with the increased mentions of sports gambling in a Super Bowl game that takes place in the gambling capital of the world (Las Vegas), more fans are starting to argue that referees have ulterior motives.

Absolutely true. If this holding call on Warner was called. The 49ers would be winners. But the @NFL rigged it for the chiefs. pic.twitter.com/4jVlDRavyd

    — Corey (@WickedFoam) February 12, 2024

The lack of holding being called on the chiefs is ridiculous!!! @NFL #Rigged

    — Scott Badberg (@scottbadberg) February 12, 2024

Not 1 holding call on the chiefs the whole game😂😂that s**t was rigged idgaf https://t.co/z5whza3YIW

    — Brazzy☔️ (@BradyWilder5) February 12, 2024

This game was 100% rigged. I’m not mad the chiefs won. The nfl saw the ratings T-Swift got for them so they called a audible. No holding calls on the Chiefs O-Line all game? Super suspicious…

There have been no offensive holding calls on EITHER team in their last two appearances. Report the whole story. Not just the one to support a clear bias.

One – and the held ALL game. Also had an illegal man downfield on the trick play.

I watched the game and I wish that the 49ers would just admit that they lost. Holding calls just mean that you are not tough enough to get through the so called Holding calls. All the 49ers needed to do was to score which they didn’t. Stop whining and move on.

Now go back and analyze EVERY holding offense by the Forty-whiners.
It is truly pathetic that they- and sports writers like this guy- feel the need to report unsubstantiated and, yes, playground accusations as serious news.
      Grow up.
      They LOST.
      Do better next time.

It’s interesting that Chiefs fans are here. It’s because they know it was rigged. No chance when you are playing “Kansas City Hold em” and the refs are the dealers. Something smells Swiftie.

And the Chiefs were denied a Pacheco 1st down when he earned it, called for intentional grounding with a QB out of the box and a receiver with outstretched hands just 2 yards away, penalized for horse-collaring when the jersey was tugged legally… I could keep going. Niners lost to the better team and coaching staff. Get over it.

This is such a BIASED report on an EVENLY CALLED GAME !!!
San Francisco was called 6-times for 40-yards, while Kansas City was called (OH LOOK) 6-times for 55-yards. Also, there were missed calls On Both Sides Of The Ball; yet all this hack can do is fan the conspiracy flame to make the 49’ers fans come off as 40Whiners. In the end, it was COACHING that did in the 49’ers; Shanahan made a High School Error in not studying all aspects of the game INCLUDING what happens in overtime, thusly getting completely schooled (AGAIN) by Andy Reid, Coaching Master who had spent the 2-weeks prior to Super Bowl LVIII grilling his team on The New Over Time Rules. Rules changed because NOBODY seems to be able to beat the Chiefs with 3-minutes left in a game -OR- in overtime itself.
Sadly, like all the 40Whiners today, they need to blame someone. Rather than blame themselves for not matching up to the Chiefs, they cry about calls made and imaginary non-calls; because at the end of the day, “We’re The 40Whiners, Of Course We’re Going To Blame Someone Or Something Else For Beating Us” !!!

Lol classic niners fan, its always something with you people! The niners choked man get over it. Blame the players that couldn’t get it done when it mattered or the coaches don’t go crying about the refs

Just like the Chiefs cheated to get their fat coaches spoiled fat son out of prison early with the help of the governor. You can hurt women and children, get charged with assault, and all the other cool stuff Chiefs players do and it doesn’t matter as long as you win it all for uncle Rog.
