The Kansas City Chiefs are on a mission to reclaim the throne after losing to the Philadelphia Eagles in last February’s Super Bowl.
The 2025 NFL draft provided an opportunity for the AFC West division franchise to address some of their needs, and with their first pick, the Chiefs decided to add a body in front of Patrick Mahomes by selecting former Ohio State Buckeyes offensive lineman Josh Simmons.
The Chiefs earned rave reviews for their body of work in the draft, including one from draft analyst Chad Reuter of NFL.com, who particularly lauded the Simmons pick.
Simmons will be an excellent pick at a major position of need for the Chiefs, if he’s able to return to form after recovering from the knee injury that shortened his 2024 season. Norman-Lott is a bit undersized (6-2, 291 pounds) and must be more consistent to justify his draft slot. Gillotte and Williams meet Chiefs archetypes for their respective positions.
Simmons got terrific grades as well in the NFL combine. According to Next Gen Stats, he was sixth among all offensive linemen in the combine in production score, 10th in athleticism score and sixth in total score.
Josh Simmons’ injury history did not deter Kansas City Chiefs from using a first-round pick on him

Many projected Simmons to be a top-15 pick in the 2025 NFL draft, but that was before he suffered a serious knee injury during a game against the Oregon Ducks last October – one that ended his college career, as he later declared for the draft.
“Josh will be fully cleared for practice by the start of NFL training camp, and he will be a high-first-round pick,” said agent Drew Rosenhaus last December, per ESPN.
