There may not be an NFL player more internationally known at the moment than Kansas City Chiefs All-Pro tight end Travis Kelce. Not only is he a future Hall of Famer, but his popularity has skyrocketed thanks to his relationship with 14-time Grammy Award winner Taylor Swift.
Fans may recall that Kelce and Swift were often the center of attention last season, with fans wondering which games the popstar would be attending. Some fans became frustrated over the amount of discussion and attention the couple received, especially during game broadcasts.
Despite the rise in his popularity, Kelce has done his best to live his life without the outside affecting him too much. He still does his popular New Heights podcast with his brother, Jason Kelce, and will do guest appearances on other shows. However, it recently came out that there was one show he did not want to do.
Kansas City Chiefs Tight End Travis Kelce Turned Down Netflix
Last year, Netflix produced a very popular documentary called Quarterback, which followed Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes and other NFL signal callers through the 2022 NFL season. On a recent appearance with Bussin’ with the Boys, Kelce revealed that the produces had approached him about appearing on their new series Receiver, which will air this year.
Like Quarterback, the documentary follows several NFL pass catchers through the 2023 season. Even though Kelce’s relationship with Swift had not become public at the time he was asked, he did not want to do the documentary:
“After [Patrick Mahomes] did [Quarterback], I did get asked about it. I just — I don’t know. I’d rather just play ball, man. I’m already doing enough with the podcast and everything. I’m way over the reality s–t, dude. I’m out on that s–t.”
Kelce previously starred on the dating show Catching Kelce in 2016. It sounds like he did not really enjoy the experience.
Kansas City Chiefs Tight End Travis Kelce May Have Dodged a Bullet by Turning Down Netflix
The players featured in Receiver include Justin Jefferson of the Minnesota Vikings, Davante Adams of the Las Vegas Raiders, and Amon-Ra St. Brown of the Detroit Lions.
As mentioned, this series followed the receivers all through last season. Of course, last season was also when Kelce and Swift began dating/made their relationship public.
Had he agreed to the series, there would have been much more publicity around them than there already was. Perhaps this upcoming Netflix series would have been an even bigger deal, too.
In any case, Netflix being around him and interviewing him every week as he was just starting out a relationship with the most popular singer in the world could have gone very badly.
