The Kansas City Chiefs and Patrick Mahomes are hoping to be even better this year than they were last season. A season that ended with them being back to back champions, for the first time since the early 2000s. However, the team had a very rough day at practice with at least five players in total left the practice ealry, and two notable players suffered injury on Wednesday.
2 Key Kansas City Chiefs Player Left Practice
PJ Green of FOX4 News Kansas City reveled that the infamous receiver Kadarius Toney got carted off the practice field after he made an awkward jump for a catch. it was reported that Toney’s body, “kind of flew in the air.”
The staff quickly rushed to the field to treat Toney and then he was carted off the field after ending his practice early.
This was the beginning of the rough day for the Chiefs as they lost a much more crucial player as shortly after Toney was taken off the field one of the star defenders for the team was taken to the injury tent as well.
Star defender Nick Bolton was taken to the injury tent on Wednesday as well. PJ Green continued his report by saying that the star linebacker was holding his left elbow after he tackled another one of the Chiefs receivers on a play.
Kansas City Chiefs Suffer Numerous Injuries At Practice
Both Bolton and Toney were taken on a medical cart from practice following their injuries. Later, head coach Andy Reid confirmed that Toney had suffered an ankle injury while Bolton had hurt his elbow. As mentioned above however, these were not the only injuries that the team suffered on Wednesday.
In addition to those key players, tight end Izaiah Gathings left practice with a hamstring issue, and both offensive tackles Chuk Godrick and McKade Mettauer both suffered an ankle injury.
Toney has had a very up and down tenure with the Chiefs after arriving in 2022. Toney was a huge spark in his first season with the team and was a huge part to their Super Bowl victory over the Philadelphia Eagles. However, the past season, Toney’s season was highlighted by big drops and mistakes. He cost the team dearly in numerous situations.
Toney was inactive throughout the entire post season, where the Chiefs won every game of course. The 25 year old will most likely not be able to get good playing time especially with this injury keeping of the practice field.
Meanwhile, Bolton has been one of their key defensive players in recent memory. He played in the Super Bowl, and they will really want him back ahead of the season.
