The Kansas City Chiefs’ title defense didn’t start off the way they had intended. A 21-20 defeat to the Detroit Lions spoiled some of their Super Bowl celebrations. Many of their issues stemmed from the wide receivers. Most notably, Kadarius Toney. Toney finished the night with 1 reception (for -1 yard) and 3 drops. One of those drops resulted in a pick-6 for the Detroit Lions.
Immediately following the Kansas City Chiefs’ loss, they were named as a prime candidate for one veteran wide receiver who may be on the trade block.
Kansas City Chiefs Widely Named As A Trade Destination For Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ Mike Evans

According to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, there is motivation on both sides to get a deal done to keep Evans in Tampa Bay:
“The Bucs do not want to trade Mike Evans. His agent, Deryk Gilmore, set a Saturday deadline for extending his contract, but Evans, a 2024 free agent, would have strong value on the trade market around the deadline, according to multiple execs I asked. He just turned 30 but is still considered elite.”
“He’s a name to watch if Saturday comes and goes without a deal. Both sides want to see Evans retire a Buccaneer, but this is a team in transition, and Tampa Bay has young core players to sign, including safety Antoine Winfield Jr. and left tackle Tristan Wirfs.”
However, after tonight’s showing, the Chiefs may offer the “kitchen sink” for someone like Evans. While Kansas City will surely get star TE Travis Kelce back sooner rather than later, they need to address the wide receiver position quick, fast, and in a hurry.
