Earlier this offseason, President Donald Trump announced that, in addition to inviting the Philadelphia Eagles to the White House to celebrate their victory in Super Bowl LIX, he was also extending an invitation to the Kansas City Chiefs, the team the Eagles defeated.
His reasoning for this unprecedented decision was that Kansas City was unable to accept his invitation in 2020 when they won the Super Bowl because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
And while it certainly was/is a classy gesture by the President to extend this invitation, it likely does not hurt that many members of the Chiefs organization, including quarterback Patrick Mahomes, have been some of his long-time supporters.
President Donald Trump Praises Kansas City Chiefs Quarterback Patrick Mahomes in Odd Tangent

In a recent press conference, President Trump was discussing the use of indigenous names, like Indians, Chiefs, and Warriors, in professional sports. He used the opportunity to praise Mahomes and his family in what can only be described as an odd tangent off of the topic at hand:
TRUMP ON PAT MAHOMES: “I love the quarterback. I like his girlfriend, too — his wife — his wife is great.” 😂 pic.twitter.com/SKJowRAknI

“Look, I think the Indian population is a great part this country. Great heritage. And we were talking about Massapequa up in Rhode Island, the Chiefs, they call themselves the Chiefs.
The Kansas City Chiefs, they’re not changing their name. Great people, great owners, great coach, quarterback. I love their quarterback. I like his girlfriend too, his wife, his wife is great. She’s been a big fan. The quarterback’s mother is incredible. I like that team.
“They’re called the Chiefs and, frankly, I see nothing wrong with it.”
Trump then went on to say that he did not see a problem with any sports team, professional or otherwise, use indigenous names as their mascots because, he says, it gives honor to the great heritage of the people that were here first.
As for Kansas City’s support for President Trump, kicker Harrison Butker is, perhaps, his most outspoken supporter. Mahomes and Travis Kelce, too, have been identified as MAGA supporters in the past, as has Clark Hunt, the team’s owner.
