Justin Fields will shine in his second season

Justin Fields second season wont look like the first.

    Chicago Bears quarterback Justin Fields
Fields had a lot to overcome in his first season.

The Bears have had a rocky relationship in the Quarterback room, they brought in Justin Fields to finally solve part of that problem. The good news there is that Fields certainly has the skills to do that. Yes last year was rough but so are most rookie seasons. Especially when the coach situation has been rocky as well. However, even so, Fields showed promise and showed maturity. This is the base of why the second year is going to be better than the first.

Fields showing of the footwork before his second season.

Yes, his second season hasn’t started but Fields is showing flashes of what is to come. The back half of his first season showed that he can handle the pressure. Plus the Bears have made changes that tell they are serious about building around him.

More of the same but this time with feeling

The Bears have a very long history of having a revolving door installed in the coaches office. Fields predecessor, Jay Cutler had more new coaches 9 than he had years 8. This season is no different really. A new head coach, and a new offensive coordinator. First Matt Eberflus, the Bears new head coach comes with a defensive mindset sure, but that mindset can help pull pressure off the offense. That in turn can make Fields job at least a bit easier if the Bears can put pressure on the opposing offense. The other comes from Green Bay, Luke Getsy. Getsy comes off of working with Aaron Rodgers that alone is already a good start. The bonus is that Getsy’s system is very quarterback friendly and should also use Fields skills to exploit weaknesses.

From a source who worked with Luke Getsy:

*Calls him a good coach and a QB specialist.

*Describes him as real even-keeled. Steady in a good way.

*Says Aaron Rodgers liked working with him.#Bears

    Challenges still exist

These first couple of changes certainly show that the Bears are all in. But there is still work to do. Chicagos offensive line has not changed and it was suspect last year. What this means is that it will be on Getsy to scheme up keeping Fields in rhythm. I expect a spread field, quick passes, and a lot of motion. In addition the Bears need to use Fields legs to keep defenses guessing. I also expect them to do all of that. Fields is a weapon and weapons are meant to be used.

Yes work remains to be done, Fields needs a better offensive line. He also could use some higher quality receivers, and a true running game. That being said, Fields worked with actually less last year. He also can answer a few of those problems just with his legs and the right scheme around him.

    Justin Fields will shine

Lets put it all together as to why. First, Eberflus brings a keep it close and tight defensive mindset. Second, Getsy brings the experience and know-how to get the best out of Fields. The last piece is Justin Fields himself, using the skills he has in a system that works better for him.  The Bears are not a village yet but sometimes you can just put one workhorse in and let them carry. Fields can do that. Fields has done that.

The Key to it all, the Bears simply need to let Fields use those skills, early and often. Let the running game be a threat of course. Keep them honest in the passing game as well. Defenses need to be forced to account for everyone on the field. When that happens trust Fields to cut loose, be it with arm, or legs. Make that process easy and the rest will just fall into place.
