North Carolina Tar Heels head coach Bill Belichick and his girlfriend, Jordon Hudson, have been at the center of the college football world for months now. Unfortunately, the headlines they have generated have had very little to do with what the six-time Super Bowl winner has done to build the UNC football program and more to do with the role Hudson plays in Belichick’s day-to-day business.
As Pro Football Talk‘s Mike Florio put it, “What [North Carolina has] gotten is a guy who has delegated various tasks to his 24-year-old girlfriend, Jordon Hudson — including projects that specifically relate to (and, as it relates to the lost Hard Knocks opportunity, undermine) the interests of the UNC football program.”
According to reporting by Pablo Torre, UNC lost out on HBO’s “Hard Knocks” because Hudson demanded creative control over the project. Losing that opportunity likely cost the program millions of dollars.
UNC Fans Are Fed Up with Jordon Hudson and Bill Belichick

This whole situation between Belichick, Hudson, and the university has been, in a word, weird. In addition to the aforementioned “Hard Knocks” missed opportunity, the 24-year-old embarrassed herself, Belichick, and North Carolina by interfering with his interview on CBS. So unprofessional was she that the network cancelled its previously schedule second interview with the head coach.
And it seems that Tar Heels fans are fed up with the ongoing soap opera that is playing out in Chapel Hill. Per a report by The Athletic, several fans have gone so far as to email university officials to voice their frustration with both Belichick and Hudson:
“I am a longtime UNC fan and cannot believe you are stuck with a coach who is clearly being run by a woman who is young enough to be his granddaughter dominating football practice and interviews,” one longtime supporter wrote to the school’s president, according to emails obtained by The Athletic. “It’s ridiculous, won’t end well, and makes UNC look foolish.”
It certainly does not seem like this situation is going in a different direction. One has to wonder what steps have taken and what conversations have been had out of the public eye by officials.
But the fact of the matter is that Belichick is football royalty, regarded by many as the greatest NFL coach of all time. Firing him, while perhaps understandable under these circumstances, would also not benefit the program in the short term.
That being said, if he cannot prove that this whole mess is worth it by leading the Tar Heels to wins on the football field, his foray into college football may be very short-lived.
