When the North Carolina Tar Heels hired Bill Belichick to be their head coach, they probably did not realize that they would be dealing with Jordon Hudson headlines all spring. Belichick, a six-time Super Bowl-winning coach with the New England Patriots, was supposed to bring his decades of expertise to the program, helping to bring it to the forefront of national attention.
And while Belichick has certainly given the program the national spotlight it wanted, it has not been for great reasons.
As fans are well aware, the majority of the news surrounding the Tar Heels football program has very little to do with what they are doing to prepare for the season and more about Hudson and whatever role she is playing in Belichick’s professional life.
Jordon Hudson Has Made Bill Belichick a Controversial Figure
Since Belichick started at North Carolina, there have been rumblings that something seemed off about how involved his 24-year-old girlfriend is in his professional life. Earlier this year, it was reported that the head coach had instructed university officials that any emails sent to him must also be forwarded to Hudson, who is not an employee of North Carolina.
Hudson’s presence at the Tar Heels’ spring practice session also turned some heads, as she, again, is not employed by the university.
But what really turned the public’s full attention onto the couple was Belichick’s disastrous interview with CBS. During the session, he was asked how he met his girlfriend. Hudson could be heard off camera saying, “We’re not going to talk about that.”
This interaction not only led to CBS cancelling their second interview with the legendary coach, but also several media professionals, notably Pablo Torre, to do deep dives into what exactly is going on at North Carolina.
Jordon Hudson and Bill Belichick Have Seen His Biggest Supporter Remain Silent
Michael Lombardi, the general manager of the Tar Heels football program, has a long history with Coach Belichick dating back to their days with the Patriots. He is often considered one of the six-time Super Bowl winner’s closest confidantes.
But, as Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk has pointed out, the man who should be at the front lines defending his program’s head coach has been loudly silent on the issue:
“Lombardi previously was an active participant in the public defense of Belichick, and in generally spreading the Tar Heel gospel. Ever since Belichick mumbled his way through a CBS interview while wearing a shirt with two neck holes and Hudson said in response to the hard-hitting question of how they met, ‘We’re not talking about that,’ Lombardi hasn’t been talking very much at all.”
Per Florio, Lombardi has refused to answer any questions regarding Hudson and what role she may or may not have in the program. For their part, North Carolina has stated that she is not one of their employees and has nothing to do with the day-to-day operations of the team.
That being said, it is now public knowledge that HBO dropped the Tar Heels from “Hard Knocks” because of Hudson’s unprofessionalism and high demands in regard to control over the production.
It certainly seems that there has been a storm brewing over Chapel Hill, and the man who is supposed to be the meteorologist, Lombardi, has been silent about it.
