“Will the Real Jordan Love Please Stand Up?” Green Bay Packers Insider Puts QB on Notice Ahead of 2025 NFL Season

Most everyone is familiar with the Green Bay Packers and their improbable run at finding franchise quarterbacks. After trading a first round pick for eventual Pro Football Hall of Famer Brett Favre back in 1992, Green Bay found future Pro Football Hall of Famer Aaron Rodgers fall into their laps in the 2025 NFL Draft.

And while it is far too early to dub Jordan Love as the Packers next Hall of Fame quarterback, the four-year $220 million contract extension he signed last year is a clear indication that the organization believes he will at least be their starter for the foreseeable future.

Of course, given the fact that his two predecessors are two of the best quarterbacks in NFL history, Love has drawn a great deal of comparisons to them, and many expect him to deliver the same thing in 2025 that both of them did in their respective sixth NFL seasons: a Super Bowl.

On the same day that he married his fiancé, Ronika Stone, Love saw Packers insider Bill Huber include him on a list of five Green Bay players that need to show improvement in 2025.

    Of Love, Huber wrote:

“Will the real Jordan Love please stand up and complete some passes?

“We all know Love’s story. He was wildly inconsistent during the first half of his first season as the starter. He was otherworldly during the second half of his first season. In 2024, due in no small part to injuries, he was closer to first-half 2023 than second-half 2023.

“The good is that his yards per attempt soared from 7.2 to 8.0. The bad is he matched his 2023 total with 12 interceptions, even though he threw 154 fewer passes. His completion percentage fell from 64.2 to 63.1, though the dropped passes certainly didn’t help.

“Big-time quarterbacks are required to win big-time games. Love showed he can be that type of player down the stretch in 2023. He’ll need to show it again if he’s going to follow in the footsteps of Brett Favre and Aaron Rodgers, who won Super Bowls in Year 6.”

And while it is true that Love did not perform as well as many, including himself, had hoped last season, it cannot be denied that his injuries affected him.

Comparing Jordan Love to Green Bay Packers Greats Aaron Rodgers and Brett Favre Is Complicated

As mentioned, it has come naturally for fans and analysts to compare Love to his predecessors as both of them are two of the all-time greats. There is a very high standard for quarterback play in Green Bay, and Love is expected to either meet or exceed them.

And, based on the numbers, he has done an admirable job, putting up very similar numbers to those Favre and Rodgers put up in their first two seasons as Green Bay’s starting quarterback:

Brett Favre Aaron Rodgers Jordan Love
    Completion % 62.4% 64.2% 63.7%
    Passing Yards 6,530 8,472 7,548
    Touchdowns 37 58 57
    Interceptions 37 20 22
    Passer Rating 78.4 98.5 96.3

The thing is, though, that while both Favre and Rodgers won a Super Bowl in their sixth NFL seasons, their careers took very different paths.

Like Love, Rodgers sat on the bench for three seasons before being named the starter. Favre, on the other hand, became the starter during his first season with Green Bay, which was his second in the league.

In other words, while Rodgers won the Super Bowl in his third year as a starter, Favre did not win it until his fifth.

So, while it is accurate to state that both won the Big Game in their sixth seasons, they both took different paths to get to that point.

Of course, the Packers hope that Love will lead them to the Super Bowl this year. But that is not because they expect him to do so in Year Six the way Favre and Rodgers did; it is because that is what they want to accomplish as a team.

Being healthy for a full season will help. So too, as Huber notes, will his receivers cutting down on dropped passes.

If those two things happen, the sky is the limit for Love and the Packers offense.
