The Cleveland Browns are reportedly in the running back market after losing running back Nick Chubb for the season. One NFL writer thinks the Browns could trade for one of the best running backs in the league in exchange for their best wide receiver.
Chubb sustained a gruesome knee injury during the Browns’ loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers on Monday Night Football in Week 2. The offense wasn’t the same without Chubb on the field.
The team is reportedly showing interest in signing Kareem Hunt or trading with the Los Angeles Rams for Cam Akers. But they may as well try and get the best running back available.
This trade sends Jonathan Taylor to the Cleveland Browns for Amari Cooper
Kristen Wong with Fansided recently put together a logical trade proposal that would benefit the Indianapolis Colts and Browns. The Colts reportedly were willing to trade disgruntled running back Jonathan Taylor to the Green Bay Packers for wide receiver Christian Watson.
Wong thinks the Browns could make a similar offer to the Colts instead of trading a draft pick for Taylor:
“With Nick Chubb out and no proven depth behind him, the Browns, who just suffered an embarrassing loss to the Steelers in an ugly MNF matchup, can keep their playoff hopes alive by acquiring Taylor.
The Colts are reportedly seeking a first-round pick or similar compensation for the All-Pro back, yet Taylor landing on the PUP list for the first four games of the season may lower his overall value.
What could a Colts-Browns trade look like?
Maybe cut out the Elf, throw in another starting-caliber player, and the Colts and Browns have a deal. Cooper, a former first-rounder in 2015, still carries potential despite being unceremoniously dumped by the Cowboys two years ago. The Browns don’t have their 2024 first-round pick due to the Deshaun Watson trade and probably wouldn’t consider giving up a pick that high, anyway.
In a possible players-only trade, Jonathan Taylor in exchange for Amari Cooper and perhaps a second-string offensive lineman seems at least like a good starting point.”
Trade Proposal: Browns receive Jonathan Taylor; Colts receive Amari Cooper
That would seem to benefit both team’s rosters. Losing Cooper isn’t ideal, but they would add an explosive running back that could help wide receiver Elijah Moore and Donovan Peoples-Jones have more space on passing plays.
A running back seems more key to fixing the Browns offense than keeping another wide receiver.
