With the return of Donald Trump to the White House last November, former President Joe Biden made headlines during an appearance on The View by taking partial responsibility for Trump’s victory. But for Stephen A. Smith, that admission didn’t land well.
On The Stephen A. Smith Show Friday episode, the outspoken media personality didn’t hold back.
“That’s straight BS. See, I’m not going to let y’all get away with that,” Smith said bluntly, dismissing Biden’s attempt to shoulder blame for Trump’s win.
Stephen A. Smith pointed instead to policy failures and public dissatisfaction during the Biden-Harris administration, which he said contributed more to their downfall than anything else.

“Kamala Harris goes on The View knowing that you had open borders, knowing the crisis it caused in this country, knowing that there was an economy that compromised by inflation, knowing there was crimes in the streets… and she went on The View when they asked if there’s anything she would do differently… She said, ‘I really can’t think of anything.’ Everybody knows that when she said that, she sealed her fate.”
But Smith wasn’t just critical of Harris — his sharper focus was on Biden’s broken campaign promise to serve as a “transitional president.” Biden had previously suggested he would only serve one term and clear a path for new Democratic leadership, but ended up running again.

“Had you kept your word and committed yourself to being a transitional president and making room very early for candidates to come down the line for the Democratic nomination… all the things that happened in the aftermath would not have been necessary. But you didn’t care,” said Smith, accusing Biden of clinging to power instead of preparing the party for the future.
Stephen A. Smith calls out Joe Biden on “bad-mouthing” Kamala Harris after the elections
Stephen A. Smith addressed what he viewed as Joe Biden subtly undermining Kamala Harris months after the 2024 elections.
“When you say you would’ve beaten Trump, and that you knew she would’ve lost, that’s bad-talking her,” he emphasized.
For Smith, the real issue wasn’t just about strategy — it was about missed leadership. “If you had kept your word… it would’ve paved the way for her to run for the office herself and campaign with ample time to do so,” he said.
In Smith’s eyes, Biden’s legacy may be defined less by what he did in office and more by what he failed to pass on.
