Jerry Rice, former wide receiver for the San Francisco 49ers, recently dropped his take on Myles Garrett requesting a trade from his current team, the Cleveland Browns. According to Rice, the 49ers should definitely try their best to get Garrett for their team, since the defensive end can contribute widely.
Garrett was the no. 1 pick in the 1st round of the 2017 NFL Draft and has been playing for the Cleveland Browns ever since. In the 2024 NFL season, Garrett managed 40 solo tackles with 14 sacks for the team. The Browns themselves did not do quite well in the season and ended the year in the last place of the AFC North with only three wins and 14 defeats. In their very last game, the Browns played against the Baltimore Ravens and lost, 35-10.
“That’s a dog. Hey, that’s a no-brainer. If you can get that dog, you go get him because it’s only going to add to that defense. And you win championships with defense. I don’t care how potent your offense is and how many points you’re putting up, you’ve got to be able to stop the opponent, and he would be a great part to doing that.” Jerry Rice said according to 95.7 The Game.

If Jerry Rice’s words do come true, the San Francisco 49ers will find a major leg-up in their defense in the upcoming NFL season. The 49ers finished fourth in the NFC West with six wins and 11 losses. In their very last game of the season, the San Francisco 49ers took on the Arizona Cardinals and lost the game with a final score of 47-24.
Jerry Rice Begs San Francisco 49ers To Retain Brock Purdy For Longer Period
On the other hand, Jerry Rice also spoke about the San Francisco 49ers current quarterback, Brock Purdy. The team is apparently discussing extending Purdy’s contract, and Rice feels that San Francisco should try their best to keep the QB in the team for a much longer period.
Rice also went on to remark that the 49ers cannot afford any distractions for the upcoming NFL season and that the team needs to be absolutely sure that Brock Purdy is the man for the job. The 62-year-old former wide receiver also went on to resound that he definitely believes that Purdy is exactly what San Francisco needs right now.
In the 2024 NFL season, the 25-year-old quarterback threw for an impressive 3, 864 yards, scoring 20 touchdowns, along with 12 interceptions. Purdy was the 262nd pick in the seventh round of the 2022 NFL Draft and has been with the 49ers since then.
