The New York Giants finished with a 3-14 record during the regular season. New York had the third overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft and selected edge rusher Abdul Carter from the Penn State Nittany Lions.

Also, the Giants traded up with the Houston Texans in the first-round from 34 in the second-round to 25 in the first to select quarterback Jaxson Dart from the Ole Miss Rebels. New York has major plans for Dart to develop behind the scenes during the 2025 NFL season.
New York Giants Reveal Depth Chart and Have Jaxson Dart Third String

On Tuesday afternoon, the Giants officially released their first depth chart of training camp. This is what one Twitter page said about New York’s quarterback depth chart:

This is not a surprise that Dart is the third-string quarterback for the Giants at this point. They don’t want the focus to be on him mainly during the 2025 NFL season. New York will be starting Russell Wilson at quarterback to begin the 2025 NFL season, head coach Brian Daboll announced during the first day of training camp.
However, Jameis Winston is projected to be the backup quarterback for the Giants. This is not a surprise as New York signed both veteran quarterbacks in free agency during the offseason. Tommy DeVito is most likely going to be the odd man out for the Giants once they make roster cuts to 53 players. Having Winston as the backup quarterback for the Giants is a good thing.
New York does not want to start Dart at all in 2025 if they don’t have to. They just want him to sit and learn this offense with Wilson leading the way. If Dart has to start at any point during the 2025 season, it will not be a good thing for this franchise.
