The Seattle Seahawks knew they’d be without rookie wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba for a little while after he suffered a broken bone in his right wrist when playing against the Dallas Cowboys in their second preseason game. After an update on Monday, the Seahawks should have more clarity for his return timeline.
Smith-Njigba underwent surgery to repair the broken bone. It was known that the former Ohio State standout would miss at least a few weeks as the wrist healed.
NFL News: Jaxon Smith-Njigba starting the season on Seattle Seahawks 53-man roster
According to Ian Rapoport with the NFL Network, Simth-Njigba could return within a month. The Seahawks expect to keep the 20th-overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft on the active roster instead of placing him on injured reserve.
#Seahawks WR Jaxon Smith-Njigba, who recently underwent surgery to repair a small broken bone in his wrist, is expected to begin the season on the active roster, source said. No word yet on his availability for W1, but avoiding IR/designated to return is a sign he'll play soon.

That should mean the Seahawks believe Smith-Njigba will return within a few weeks of the regular season opener, or they would have placed him on the injured reserve list.
The Seahawks need Smith-Njigba to be healthy this season. Quarterback Geno Smith looked good last season, but the offense could have used another explosive weapon during their blowout loss to the San Francisco 49ers in the Wild Card round in January.
