Indianapolis Colts Star Injured Ahead of Week 1 Preseason Game

The Indianapolis Colts have a lot of exciting players that can get the team back in the postseason as they are hoping to get a healthy season out of their young offense. However, it appears that one player is not going to be entering the Preseason Week 1 game against the Denver Broncos on Sunday afternoon.

During Wednesday’s practice in training camp, wide receiver Josh Downs reportedly was tackled and came up with an apparent ankle injury. Downs needed help in order to get off the field and was unable to put weight on the injury.

Josh Downs had a solid rookie season with the Indianapolis Colts last season as he finished with 68 receptions on 98 targets for 771 yards (11.3 yards per catch) with a pair of touchdown receptions. With the hope that quarterback Anthony Richardson can stay healthy and create a connection between the two, this would be a great sign for their chances in a tough AFC South.

Can the Indianapolis Colts make the playoffs this season?

The Indianapolis Colts are coming off a 9-8 regular season where they were in a Week 18 win-and-get-in game against the Houston Texans. Despite playing so well with a backup quarterback in Gardner Minshew III for a majority of the season, the team is +140 to make the playoffs, which is 10th in the AFC right now.

A lot is going to depend on the health of quarterback Anthony Richardson and wide receiver Josh Downs as Downs being a second option in the passing game will help the ball move more freely if Michael Pittman Jr. has a tough matchup. It is difficult to picture a playoff season with the tough beginning to the schedule and a very late bye week, I would avoid placing that wager but below is the schedule for this Colts team this season.

    • Week 1: vs Houston Texans
    • Week 2: at Green Bay Packers
    • Week 3: vs. Chicago Bears
    • Week 4: vs. Pittsburgh Steelers
    • Week 5: at Jacksonville Jaguars
    • Week 6: at Tennessee Titans
    • Week 7: vs. Miami Dolphins
    • Week 8: at Hoston Texans
    • Week 9: at Minnesota Vikings
    • Week 10: vs. Buffalo Bills
    • Week 11: at New York Jets
    • Week 12: vs. Detroit Lions
    • Week 13: at New England Patriots
    • Week 14: BYE
    • Week 15: at Denver Broncos
    • Week 16: vs. Tennessee Titans
    • Week 17: at New York Giants
    • Week 18: vs. Jacksonville Jaguars
