Ever since Indianapolis Colts star running back Jonathan Taylor led the league in rushing in 2021, he has battled injuries, which have caused him to miss 13 games in his last two seasons. Taylor missed six games in 2022 because of an ankle injury. He then missed the first four games in 2023 to recover from off-season ankle surgery and missed three more with a thumb injury that required surgery.
So far, Taylor has had an incredible start to the season and is top-5 in rushing yards and touchdowns through their first four games. He has 349 yards (5th) on 72 carries (6th) and four touchdowns (T-4th). Unfortunately, he couldn’t avoid the injury bug.
The Indianapolis Colts Pro Bowler exited the 4th quarter with an injury
Jonathan Taylor exited the fourth quarter with an apparent ankle injury after his right ankle got caught in the turf as he planted. The medical staff taped his ankle, but he didn’t return for the rest of the game. Tests determined that Taylor suffered a mild high ankle sprain. Although the injury isn’t deemed to be serious, this is the same ankle that he injured in 2022.
Taylor told reporters that he was feeling good after the game. “Feeling pretty good,” he said. “We came out with the win, so I’m excited to attack this week.”
He will not play
Jonathan Taylor did not participate in Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday’s practice sessions. As a result, the Indianapolis Colts have ruled Taylor for Week 5. Shane Steichen told the media that he tried out his ankle this week to see how it was feeling. “He worked on it this week,” Indianapolis head coach Shane Steichen said. “That’s where it’s at right now.”

Who replaces him in the starting rotation?
Trey Sermon will start in the absence of Jonathan Taylor. Sermon is in his second season with the Colts after bouncing around with the 49ers and Eagles in his first two seasons. He filled in for Taylor in their last game, with eight yards on five carries and 24 yards on nine carries on the season.
Tyler Goodson will also receive some playing time as well. Goodson is also in his second season with the Colts after bouncing around with the Packers practice squad in his rookie season. He hasn’t registered a statistic in 12 offensive snaps.
