Kevin Stefanski’s name is one of the first to come up among head coaches potentially on the hot seat as the 2024 NFL season enters its stretch run and the Cleveland Browns fall out of contention while failing to meet preseason expectations.
As the Browns contninue preparation for Thursday night’s showdown against the bitter AFC North rival Pittsburgh Steelers, Stefanski broke his silence and sounded off on speculation that his job is on the line.
“I think probably because I grew up listening to [Philadelphia radio], I’m smart enough to not worry about outside noise,” Stefanski told reporters during his Tuesday press conference. “I get that’s part of this gig. That’s life in the big city. My sole focus is getting this team ready to get a win on Thursday night. That’s it.”
Amid a season where Deshaun Watson’s struggles hampered the offense, significantly, before the embattled quarterback suffered a season-ending injury and the Browns have limped to a 2-8 start through the first 10 games, the pressure is understandably mounting on Stefanski to turn things around.
Beginning Thursday night against the Steelers, the Browns begin a daunting closing stretch of the season, set to face the NFL’s third most difficult remaining schedule, with their opponents boasting a combined .630 winning percentage.
It is starting to feel like an uphill battle for Stefanski to avoid being shown the door at season’s end, if not before.
