How long until the rebuild is finished for the Vanderbilt Commodores football program? The vast majority of college football fans may not ask, but Vandy fans might.
Commodore fans as you can say, have been put in the mud and dragged. Since 2000, Vandy has a combined three winning seasons with three seasons .500 or better in the SEC. Two of the three seasons listed above were when James Franklin was HC (2011-2013).
Current HC Clark Lea is entering his second season with the program and looks to vastly improve from a 2-10 season. There will need to be some improvement in SEC play after going 0-8 last season. Right now, I do not have Vandy with any chance to win the SEC.
Anything can happen in sports, but not too many may believe that for Vanderbilt football. For coach Lea, he believes in time that he can lead the Commodores to elevated levels.
SEC Media Day
During SEC Media Day, there were intriguing comments made by HC Clark Lea.
“We know in time, Vanderbilt Football will be the best program in the country,” Lea said Tuesday at SEC Media Days. Lea also noted, “As I said a year ago, there are no cheat codes, shortcuts, no hacks that will allow this to happen overnight,”.
Now, I will not rush Lea, but how long will the overnight be?

Now, the Commodores during SEC Media labeled Mike Wright as the starter this season. After last season, I have Ken Seals as the better passing QB out of the two. However, both or Mike Wright will need to be more accurate throwing the ball. What Wright can bring to the table is his legs to extend plays. During the Missouri game last season, Wright rushed for 152 yards. Can he be affective with both all season?
The games I am circling for the Commodores is Hawaii, Elon, Northern Illinois, and Missouri. The first three circled are in the early part of the schedule and Missouri is later. Vanderbilt right now O/U is listed at 2-2.5 depending on where you are located.
Vanderbilt in my opinion should win the first two games of season. After the first two, things will be difficult, but I am going to lean with the Commodores to grab the third win somewhere. DO I think the rebuild is finished anytime soon? We will have to see the direction this year.
