The Houston Texans shock the NFL World by trading for Joe Mixon.
The Cincinnati Bengals did not release Joe Mixon after signing Zack Moss; they traded him to the Houston Texans.
Plot twist: The #Bengals are now trading Joe Mixon to the #Texans, rather than releasing him, sources say.

One day after the Cincinnati Bengals signed Zack Moss to a two-year, $8 million deal, it was thought the Bengals would release Joe Mixon. Instead, they traded Joe Mixon to the Texans Tuesday.
NBC Sports says, “There’s no word on what the Texans are sending the Bengals for Mixon. It won’t be much, but sometimes a team is willing to give up a late-round pick for the certainty of getting a player before he has a chance to sign elsewhere in free agency.”
Houston Texans Surprise the NFL
This is a shock to the NFL, as Joe Mixon was thought to be released by most NFL media outlets. It was believed that the Houston Texans were in the market for a running back as their name came up in the pursuit of Derrick Henry.
Instead of signing a free agent lead back, they opted for the assurance of trading. The details of the trade have not been released at this time.
Mixon heads to the Houston Texans as a 1,000-yard rusher in four of his seven professional seasons.
Texans on the Ground
The Houston offense was elite in the air last year but struggled to gain offense on the ground. Thanks to rookie phenom CJ Stroud, the Texans were seventh in passing yards and 22nd in the NFL in rush yards.
It was public that head coach DeMeco Ryans and offensive coordinator Bobby Slowik would emphasize the run game this offseason, and the Joe Mixon trade shows that.
Joe Mixon Career
Joe Mixon has been as steady as they come for an NFL running back. As mentioned, he has had over 1,000 yards rushing in four of seven seasons. He has also had over 300 yards receiving in his last three seasons.
Mixon’s issue is the same as any running back injury. He has missed at least one game in five of seven seasons. Health is not the only issue. Mixon has made headlines for several off-field incidents.
According to NFL.com, “Mixon, 26, was initially charged on Feb. 2 after a complaint was filed in Hamilton County (Ohio) Municipal Court alleging he pointed a firearm at a woman, according to the report, and said, “You should be popped in the face, I should shoot you. The police can’t get me.” The incident allegedly occurred on Jan. 21, per the complaint. The Bengals defeated the Buffalo Bills in the AFC Divisional Round on Jan. 22.”
All charges were dropped, but questions about Mixon’s ability to stay out of trouble were still raised.
