Houston Texans running back Joe Mixon has been hampered by ankle injuries ever since the start of the 2024 season. He initially suffered a high ankle sprain from a hip-drop tackle in Week 2, which sidelined him for the following three games. Mixon then sustained another ankle injury from a hip-drop tackle in Week 15, but managed to finish the season, although he remained limited during practice.
To make matters worse, he is still dealing with an ankle issue.
Houston Texans RB1 has yet to practice

Joe Mixon injured his foot/ankle away from the practice facility, resulting in the Texans placing him on the non-football injury list to start training camp. As a result, the two-time Pro Bowler has missed the entirety of camp and the preseason, with less than two weeks remaining until Week 1. The front office must trim the roster from 90 players to finalize the 53-man roster by Tuesday and has to decide whether to activate Mixon or sideline him for at least four games.
Houston Texans superstar back expected to miss first 4 games

On X, the Texans announced they will officially move Joe Mixon from the active/non-football injury list to the reserve/NFI list on Tuesday at 3 pm CST. He will miss at least the first four weeks of the regular season, depending on how his foot and ankle feel. The earliest Mixon can suit up is Week 5, when the team faces off against the Baltimore Ravens.
