The left guard position continues to be a problem for the Houston Texans’ offensive line. Kenyon Green has started each of their first eight games in the 2024 season but has struggled. Green has surrendered 24 pressures, 17 hurries, three QB hits, four sacks allowed, seven penalties, a 44.1 pass block, a 43.5 run block, and a 39.1 PFF grade. He has allowed the most pressures, hurries, T-11th most QB hits, and T-2nd most sacks among offensive guards h/t PFF.
The Texans benched Green in Week 8. However, he didn’t sit on the bench that long because his replacement suffered an injury.
The Houston Texans’ backup offensive lineman suffered a head injury in the first half
Jarrett Patterson replaced Kenyon Green at left guard for a short while. Patterson played only ten snaps in Week 8 because he exited the second quarter with an apparent head injury. He entered the concussion protocol and would miss the rest of the game. The Texans would reinsert Green at left guard.

He will not play
Jarrett Patterson couldn’t practice this week and clear the concussion protocol in time for tomorrow’s game. According to Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2, the Houston Texans have ruled out four players for their Thursday night game against the New York Jets. Patterson is one of the four players who have been ruled out. He will miss his second game of the season.

Who starts at LG?
The Houston Texans will start Kenyon Green at left guard against the New York Jets for tomorrow’s game. DeMeco Ryans still has confidence in Green despite his struggles. Ryans expects the former 1st round pick from the 2022 NFL Draft to bounce back.
“Kenyon has done fine,” Ryans said Tuesday. “Like I said, he had some bad plays. A lot of guys had some bad plays, and everybody is asking about Kenyon and nobody feels worse about this than Kenyon. He knows he has to play better, he will play better and let’s go to work. That is what it is about. It is not about everybody trying to figure out if Kenyon is out. When Kenyon is ready, he will be ready to roll and we won six games with Kenyon and we have to keep going.”
