The Penn State Nittany Lions will be in national championship contention in 2025 because of quarterback Drew Allar. Allar helped Penn State get to the semifinals in the college football playoffs.

He had a bad outing against the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. There were some rumors going around that Allar was going to declare for the 2025 NFL Draft, but he decided to stay in college for another year and potentially benefit from that move. With him staying in college, he could be one of the top quarterbacks selected in the 2026 NFL Draft.
Matt Miller Of ESPN Ranks Penn State Nittany Lions Quarterback Drew Allar As the 5th Best Quarterback Prospect For the 2026 NFL Draft For Now

Matt Miller and Jordan Reid of espn.com listed there top five players at each position for now for the 2026 NFL Draft. Miller decided to have the Nittany Lions quarterback ranked fifth on his list. This comes as a major surprise. He has Cade Klubnik of the Clemson Tigers ranked number one. This isn’t a surprise at all.
Miller also had Garrett Nussmeier of the LSU Tigers ranked second, Fernando Mendoza of the Indiana Hoosiers ranked third, and LaNorris Sellers of the South Carolina Gamecocks ranked fourth. With Allar coming in at number five, this feels like very mind boggling. Had Allar came out in the 2025 NFL Draft, he would have been the second quarterback off the board.
Miller believed that Allar was the toughest player to rank on this list. He said,
“Allar. Every quarterback in this class is tough to rank, but Penn State’s passer is the toughest. He flashes brilliance with a big arm and good mobility for his 6-foot-5, 238-pound size, but his decision-making is very hit-or-miss, especially against top opponents. His ability to clean up mental mistakes will determine where his stock goes as a senior. Allar could be the top QB in the class … or slip to Day 3.”
This is a bold prediction for Allar. It would be a shock if the Nittany Lions quarterback fell to day three of the NFL Draft in 2026. There is no doubt that all five of those quarterbacks could potentially be first round picks and they aren’t even including Texas Longhorns quarterback Arch Manning.
Allar completed 66.5% of his passes for 3,327 yards, 24 touchdowns, and eight touchdowns in 2024. He also rushed for 302 yards on 96 carries and six touchdowns, along with averaging 3.1 yards per carry. Allar is 6’5″ and weighs 238 lbs. It will be interesting to see what kind of year he has in 2025, to determine where he could land in the 2026 NFL Draft.
