The Cleveland Browns enter the 2025 NFL season with a major question about the future at the quarterback position. Joe Flacco is going to start the season as the starting quarterback, but it is also possible that rookies Dillon Gabriel and Shedeur Sanders will see some game action as well.
Is there a chance that the Browns future franchise quarterback is not on the roster at the moment? A lot of people make that assumption that Cleveland will find its next franchise quarterback in the 2026 NFL Draft. One name that the Browns could potentially be scouting big time at the college level during the 2025 college football season is South Carolina Gamecocks quarterback LaNorris Sellers.
The Athletic Believes Cleveland Browns Will Select South Carolina Gamecocks Quarterback LaNorris Sellers In Latest 2026 NFL Mock Draft
Nick Baumgardner of the Athletic created a mock draft for 2026. Well, he thinks that the Browns are going to be the second-worst team in the NFL for the upcoming 2025 season. Cleveland does not have a lot of offensive talent on its roster, and they need a game-changer at the most important position. Baumgardner believes that the Browns will select Sellers second-overall in the 2026 NFL Draft.
“So much of this depends on what we see from the 20-year-old Sellers this season. He had some very nice stretches in the pocket as a sophomore last season, though, while remaining dangerous in the open field— and difficult to tackle at 6-foot-3, 242 pounds. He has youthful habits to iron out, but Sellers has the tools to be a star at the next level.”
A lot of people are hyping the Gamecocks this season because of Sellers. During the 2024 college football season with South Carolina, he completed 65.6% of his passes for 2,534 yards, 18 touchdowns, and seven interceptions. Sellers also rushed for 674 yards on 166 carries and seven touchdowns, along with averaging 4.1 yards per carry.
He does not have to come out to the NFL Draft this year since he is only a redshirt sophomore. With that being said, there will be a ton of hype around Sellers to be one of the top selections in the 2026 NFL Draft. The Browns no doubt will have one of the top selections in the 2026 draft and they will most likely eye the South Carolina quarterback or someone else.
