The Green Bay Packers started OTA’s on Tuesday, with most of their roster reporting to camp despite the voluntary nature of the program. Not present was two-time Pro Bowl cornerback Jaire Alexander. However, a recent report stated that Alexander does, indeed, want to remain in Green Bay and that the Packers have extended him a contract restructure. And while he has not agreed to the restructure, he will report to the team for mandatory minicamp in a couple of weeks.

With the Alexander question soon reaching a resolution, fans can turn their attention to other unknowns regarding the roster and what the 2025 team will look like. One NFL analyst believes that the most important of these lies on the offensive side of the ball.

NFL Analyst Says Fans Should Watch the Green Bay Packers Wide Receiver Battle

    Green Bay Packers, Romeo Doubs
Green Bay Packers wide receiver Romeo Doubs (87) pulls down a long first down reception against Indianapolis Colts cornerback Jaylon Jones (40) in the fourth quarter during their football game Sunday, September 15, 2024, at Lambeau Field in Green Bay, Wisconsin.

Going into this offseason, most everyone knew that the Packers would be looking to add a wide receiver or two. Even when they signed three-time Super Bowl Champion Mecole Hardman, many believed they were not done at the position.

After all, Christian Watson will miss the start of the season as he recovers from a torn ACL and Green Bay’s other top pass catchers, Jayden Reed, Dontayvion Wicks, and Romeo Doubs, all were among the league leaders in drops last season.

But few expected the Packers to select a wide receiver with their first round pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. Matthew Golden became the first wide receiver taken by Green Bay in the first round since Javon Walker in 2002.

And the Packers were not done. They selected TCU’s Savion Williams in the third round, further adding to their wide receiver room.

Garrett Podell of CBS Sports believes that how Green Bay’s wide receiver room shakes out, and how they dole out targets during the season, will be an important thing to watch going forward:

“The Packers have, by design, maintained a young and deep wide receiver room for quarterback Jordan Love since he took over for the departed Aaron Rodgers in 2023. That room got even more crowded this offseason after general manager Brian Gutekunst drafted Texas wide receiver Matthew Golden in the first round (23rd overall) and TCU wide receiver Savion Williams in the third round (87th overall).

“Watching how head coach Matt LaFleur opts to dole out their snaps alongside mainstays like Jayden Reed, Romeo Doubs and Dontayvion Wicks will be something to keep an eye on.”

In addition to the aforementioned pass catchers, the Packers also re-signed Bo Melton this offseason and have former undrafted free agent Malik Heath in camp.

Indeed, the Packers are going to have to make some pretty tough decisions when it comes to the position, but that is exactly what they wanted.
