Last offseason, the Green Bay Packers made two huge splashes in free agency, adding running back Josh Jacobs and safety Xavier McKinney. Both players made an immediate impact on the Packers, exceeding the high expectations that fans had for them going into the season.
Jacobs finished the 2024 season, his first in Green Bay, with 1,329 rushing yards and a career-high 15 rushing touchdowns. He also had 342 receiving yards and his first career receiving touchdown.
McKinney was named First Team All-Pro after racking up eight interceptions and 88 tackles. He also finished eighth in Defensive Player of the Year voting.
Both players were named to the Pro Bowl. It was Jacobs’ third career selection and McKinney’s first.
Josh Jacobs Wants to Retire with the Green Bay Packers

When news of Jacobs’ signing was first reported, Packers fans thought they were going to have a dynamic backfield that included him and fan-favorite Aaron Jones. However, not long after news of the signing broke, Green Bay released Jones, who subsequently signed with the Minnesota Vikings.
Jones’ departure not only meant that Jacobs was going to have to make up for his production, but also for the role he played in the locker room and community. Indeed, Jones, despite playing for the hated Vikings, is still beloved by Packers fans.
But Jacobs has stepped in and has done some great things for the Green Bay community. He is frequently doing events for local area veterans and helping to raise funds to benefit the homeless.
As a result, he has been embraced by Packers fans everywhere and is considered a massive favorite among the base. And he feels the love, recently revealing that he wants to retire in Green Bay:

When asked by a person on the stream video posted above how they could get him to the Miami Dolphins, Jacobs said, “I’m happy where I’m at. I’m trying to retire with them.”
Entering his age 27 season, Jacobs has three more years remaining on the $48 million contract he signed with Green Bay last year. If he plays out the contract, he will hit free agency ahead of his age 30 season.
Knowing the Packers, it is not likely that they will give another contract to a 30-year-old running back. But a great deal will depend on how well Jacobs performs over the next three seasons.
