The Green Bay Packers have started mandatory minicamp , as all other NFL teams have. Last month, it was reported that Jaire Alexander and the team were working on a resolution that would bring the two-time Pro Bowl cornerback back to Green Bay. Questions of his future with the organization that drafted him in the first round of the 2018 NFL Draft arose at the end of the year when he told reporters that he had “nothing good to say” and that he did not know if he would return in 2025.
When news of a possible reunion arose, Alexander’s camp made it known that he would be in attendance for mandatory minicamp whether or not the two sides had agreed to a new deal by then. He did skip all of Green Bay’s in-person voluntary workouts.
However, Alexander is not present at Packers minicamp because he was released on Monday.
The Green Bay Packers Released Jaire Alexander

On Monday, Green Bay informed Alexander that they were going to release him. That decision was reached when the two sides could not come to an agreement on a contract restructure that would have made him a free agent after this season. The Packers wanted him to play on an incentive-based contract that would have paid him more money based on his performance and playing time.
Alexander refused.
Of course, the reason the Packers wanted him to play on a restructured deal, instead of the one that would have paid him $17.5 million, is the fact that he struggled to stay on the field.
Over the last four seasons, Alexander played in 34 of a possible 68 regular season games. Over the past two seasons, he played in just 14 of a possible 34.
Green Bay Packers Quarterback Jordan Love Is Going to Miss Jaire Alexander
Speaking with reporters after practice on Tuesday, Packers quarterback Jordan Love was asked about the release of Alexander. He was pretty straight-forward in his response:

“[He’s] someone who’s been here since I got here, someone that I was very close with. So, it’s definitely tough. You know, that’s how the NFL goes. There are tough decisions that are made and it’s all about how we move on and grow from them.
“Love to see what happens with him and where he ends up, but got nothing but love for Jaire. Love my time being able to play with him, play against him every day. He’s a guy that made me better going up against him in practice. We talked a good amount just about what he [saw] in me.
“Somebody who definitely believed in me from the get go when I got my opportunity, so like I said, tough to see him go. Wish him nothing but the best, but right now it’s moving on and seeing what’s best for our team.”
When Love was first named the Packers’ starting quarterback, there were many fans and analysts who doubted that he would succeed. Alexander made it a point to interrupt Love’s media sessions in the locker room to tell reporters how great the new quarterback was.
It is easy to see why Love is going to miss him.
