One of the biggest storylines surrounding the Green Bay Packers throughout the course of the offseason has been the future of two-time Pro Bowl cornerback Jaire Alexander. Despite the fact that, when healthy, Alexander is one of the best players at his position in the entire NFL, staying on the field has become a definite issue.
Over the last two seasons, he has played in just 14 of a possible 34 regular season games. Out of 68 possible games in the last four years, Alexander has played just 34.
And while injuries happen, especially in a game as violent as football, it has been comments he has made about the organization that have made many wonder if he would be playing for the Packers at all in 2025.
The Green Bay Packers and Jaire Alexander Appeared to Be Headed Towards a Divorce

Throughout the 2023 NFL season, Alexander seemed to be a bit off during his interviews with the media. However, many brushed it off as a part of his unique personality.
But when he made himself a team captain against the Carolina Panthers and made a foolish mistake that nearly cost Green Bay the coin toss, he was suspended a game for conduct detrimental to the team.
All that drama, though, was pushed aside as 2024 began, with both parties saying that they came out of their turbulent 2023 season better off for it. Alexander got off to a hot start last season, too. He intercepted two passes in the Packers’ first three games, including one for his first career pick-six.
But a knee injury in Week Eight changed everything.
Soon revealed to be a torn PCL, Green Bay hoped that rehab would allow Alexander to return to the field at some point late in the season. However, he continually was scratched from games despite being a full participant in practices.
Eventually, it was announced that he would have surgery and miss the Wild Card round against the Philadelphia Eagles. And when the players gave their end of season interviews following their postseason, Alexander told reporters that he did not know if he would return in 2025.
The Green Bay Packers and Jaire Alexander Reportedly Are in a Good Place

It was a foregone conclusion by many that Green Bay would trade Alexander at some point during the offseason, especially in the days leading up to the 205 NFL Draft. However, he was not traded before or during the event, leading some to wonder if he might actually return.
And despite the speculation that he might be cut if the Packers could not find a trade partner, Peter Schrager of ESPN recently revealed that a return is more than a possibility:
According to @PSchrags on the @PatMcAfeeShow, it’s appearing more likely that Jaire Alexander is staying with the Green Bay Packers
He’s had great talks w/ Coach LaFleur and Brian Gutekunst. He also has a great relationship with DC Jeff Hafley#GoPackGo

“I had a lovely dinner with Matt LaFleur during the Draft in Green Bay. And I brought it up, and I don’t think he’d mind me sharing this, but he said, ‘We’re actually in a good place with Jaire.’
“Obviously, there was some stuff last year and the coin toss situation a couple years back. And all that is head-scratching stuff that would drive a coach nuts when you’re trying to drive a disciplined program.
“But from what I gather, this thing is in a lot better place than what was being presented in the media, and that there is a place for Jaire Alexander in Green Bay.
“And I think he and Jeff Hafley have actually had a great relationship. It’s a different breed and it’s a different time. When he was being listed as that number one trade target, I don’t think that was coming from Green Bay.
“If you know [general manager Brian Gutekunst at all], you know he wasn’t leaking that to anybody. It was a lot of outside noise, I believe. But we’ll see how it works itself out.”
The fact that Green Bay did not draft a cornerback until the seventh round of the NFL Draft would seem to indicate that they do not view that position as one of need. Faith that Alexander was going to be back would explain that decision.
