The Green Bay Packers are fighting for a playoff spot this season as they are 10th in the NFC with a 7-8 record heading into their Week 17 game against the Minnesota Vikings. However, they are going to be without arguably their best player on either side of the football as cornerback Jaire Alexander has been suspended for one game for “conduct detrimental to the team”.
Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst spoke to the media about the decision to suspended Jaire Alexander and talked about looking forward to the future as he is still a valued player to the organization.
“The decision to suspend a player is never easy and not one we take lightly. Unfortunately, Jaire’s actions prior to the game in Carolina led us to take this step. As an organization, we have an expectation that everyone puts the team first. While we are disappointed, we had a good conversation with Jaire this morning and fully expect him to learn from this as we move forward together. We look forward to welcoming him back next week as he is a valued member of this team and will continue to be in the future.”
The reported reason for the suspension is the fact he went out for the coin toss on Sunday despite not being named a captain and almost botched the call. Jaire Alexander has been playing for the Green Bay Packers this season as he has posted 26 total tackles (22 solo, four assisted) with a forced fumble and four pass deflections.
Can the Green Bay Packers win without Jaire Alexander this week?
The Green Bay Packers are gearing up for an NFC North divisional matchup against the Minnesota Vikings and need a win to keep their playoff hopes alive. A win here would split the season series as the Vikings won a few weeks ago in the first game.
Jaire Alexander has been a strong cornerback option throughout his career but missing this game will make guarding the wide receiver duo of Justin Jefferson and Jordan Addison a bit more complex for this Green Bay Packers defense. While it is possible, the Green Bay Packers are currently two-point road underdogs in this game so it’s possible to keep the playoff hopes alive.
