The Green Bay Packers entered the week with two of their best players, both two-time Pro Bowlers, yet to report to team for OTAs. And while these workouts have been optional, their absence, as well as the presence of the team’s other star players, has been a source of consternation among fans.
Of course, these two stars are center Elgton Jenkins and cornerback Jaire Alexander. But while Jenkins just reported to Green Bay this morning (per Tom Pelissero of NFL Network), Alexander has been informed that he is being released.
The Green Bay Packers Have Informed Jaire Alexander That He Is Being Released

Early Monday morning, NFL insider Ian Rapoport broke the news that Green Bay had informed Alexander that he was going to be released after seven seasons with the Packers:

This decision comes months after the two-time Pro Bowl cornerback (and two-time Second Team All-Pro) told reporters that he had “nothing good to say” and that he was not sure if he was going to return to the team in 2025.
Over the past four seasons, Alexander has missed as many games as he has played, suiting up for 34 of a possible 68 contests. However, over the past two seasons, he has played just 14 of a possible 34.
In the end, the Packers did not want to pay him $17.5 million this year following his injury-plagued 2023 and 2024. Alexander, though, did not want a restructured contract as he knows he can make more money on the open market than what Green Bay would (and did) offer.
Green Bay Packers Fans Are Furious that the Team Is Releasing Jaire Alexander

For years, Alexander has been a fan-favorite in Green Bay. While he has often been injured, fans love his personality and entertaining interviews, as well as his dominant play (when healthy).
Seeing him released on Monday made many of these fans extremely unhappy:
Are they dumb?? 😭😭😭 https://t.co/kPoaVrM8Iu

Really thought they were gonna find some common ground in this, but I feel like the relationship was so tarnished. Wishing Ja nothing but the best, and plz dont go to Minnesota or Detroit 😀 https://t.co/SW6dljkbei

Packers about to give up the most passing yards in history. How did they fumble this. https://t.co/9NbunxQmm5

That’s so stupid. That is SO stupid.
Set aside the fact that he’s worth keeping around, they don’t have any cornerbacks on the freaking roster. https://t.co/FrpGAiJPZ1

We all knew it was coming but doesn’t make it any easier :/ https://t.co/8f4UOllbWb

With the release of Alexander, Green Bay’s starting cornerbacks are likely going to be Keisean Nixon and Carrington Valentine, with Nate Hobbs playing nickel.
Obviously, the Packers think that those players are going to be good enough for them to have a good pass defense in 2025. Fans, as one can see, are not so sure.
