The Green Bay Packers face long-term uncertainty at the wide receiver position, with two receivers under contract for only one more year. Although Jayden Reed and Dontayvion Wicks have shown flashes and promise in their first two years, both struggled with drops in 2024 and finished in the top 10 in drop percentage. Finally, Christian Watson, arguably their best and most explosive receiver, will likely miss at least half of 2025 to recover from his ACL tear, as his father expects him to return around Week 12.
He’ll have his surgery soon, and should be back around Week 12, with a normal rehab. There’s nothing outside of what’s typical with his injury. Simple ACL and minor cleanup. He’s just doing usual pre-surgery strengthening prehab to get ahead of any post-surgical atrophy! He…

Because of this, for the first time since Javon Walker in 2002, the Packers could select a wide receiver in the first round of the upcoming draft.
Green Bay Packers hosting star Big Ten wide receiver

According to Adam Schefter, the Packers will host former Ohio State Buckeyes’ star Emeka Egbuka for a Top-30 visit on Monday and Tuesday. Egbuka primarily plays in the slot but can also line up on the outside. Many analysts have mocked him as one of the top receivers and a mid to late first-round pick.

He had a great career with Ohio State

Emeka Egbuka committed to the Ohio State Buckeyes as a five-star recruit for the 2021 season. Egbuka had a great career with Ohio State, hauling in 205 receptions for 2,868 yards and 24 touchdowns, finishing first in receptions and yards and tied for seventh in touchdowns in Buckeyes history. He had a great senior year, hauling in 81 receptions for 1,011 yards and ten touchdowns, earning him a Third Team All-Big-Ten selection.
Here’s Lance Zierlein‘s scouting report on Emeka Egbuka

“Fluid athlete with good size and quality ball skills who works primarily from the slot. Egbuka runs his routes with tempo and pace. He does a nice job of influencing coverage when needed. He lacks the explosiveness to race past the coverage and is a little tight in his hips getting in and out of breaks.
“Egbuka’s baseball background shows up with his laser-focused ball-tracking and ability to make sudden adjustments to bring throws in for a safe landing. He’s not elusive or sudden after the catch but is competitive and can squeeze out additional yardage. Egbuka projects as an early starter at slot for teams running heavy amounts of three-wideout sets.”
Zierlein predicts that Egbuka will eventually become a plus starter.
