Former Green Bay Packers quarterback Brett Favre is one of the most polarizing figures in the history of the franchise. Once beloved for leading the Packers back to Super Bowl glory, Favre saw many fans turn on him when he retired after a year with the New York Jets only to unretire and sign with the Minnesota Vikings.
It is not uncommon, though, for great players and fan-favorites to find themselves playing for different teams towards the end of their NFL careers. And time, as they say, heals all wounds. This is why Favre was eventually welcomed back by fans when the Packers retired his number.
But scandals that occurred both during and after his playing career have marred Favre’s image, regardless of how highly regarded he is by many fans.
Green Bay Packers Legend Brett Favre Is the Subject of a Netflix Documentary

“The Fall of Favre” is a Netflix documentary that goes into some unsavory details about Favre’s life both during and after his playing career. In addition to mentioning his admitted addiction to painkillers during his time in Green Bay, the episode spends a great deal of time on the Jenn Sterger scandal, in which Favre sent an intimate picture of himself to the Jets’ sideline reporter.
Sterger herself was interviewed at length for the documentary, and revealed several text messages, emails, and voice mails that she received from Favre.
And, of course, the “Fall of Favre” ends with a discussion regarding the Mississippi Welfare Scandal, and his alleged involvement in it. As fans are well aware, Favre was accused of helping to steal millions of dollars from Mississippi’s Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) Fund, and was even ordered to repay $1.1 million to the state for unfulfilled speaking engagements.
Despite the accusations, and the fact that his business partner pled guilty to wire fraud in connection to the scandal, Favre himself has not been indicted nor convicted of any crimes.
Former Green Bay Packers QB Brett Favre Makes Rare Comment on Mississippi Welfare Scandal

In addition to Sterger, some of the reporters who covered the scandal were interviewed for the documentary. So too were state politicians, who had no good things to say about the former Packers star.
Favre himself was not interviewed, though Netflix claimed they reached out to him for the project.
That being said, he has made a rare statement regarding the scandal in response to a fan who was defending him on social media:
Amen. Plus every entity that is required to approve the grant, approved it without hesitation.

Favre also reposted a theory that Netflix only made the documentary to get back at him for supporting President Donald Trump.
