Even before the Green Bay Packers traded Aaron Rodgers in the spring of 2023, the New York Jets began stockpiling some of his favorite teammates and coaches in an effort to lure the four-time NFL MVP to their team. They started by hiring Nathaniel Hackett, the Packers offensive coordinator when Rodgers won his last two MVP Awards, to the same position in their organization.
Then, they signed one of his favorite wide receivers in Green Bay, Allen Lazard, to a four-year $44 million contract. After acquiring Rodgers, they proceeded to sign Randall Cobb, Billy Turner, and Adrian Amos.
In 2024, New York also added Davante Adams in a mid-season trade with the Las Vegas Raiders. Adams, of course, had made a name for himself while setting Packers franchise receiving records.
Unfortunately for the Jets, becoming Green Bay East did not work out for them, and just one of the aforementioned players remains on the team.
Former Green Bay Packers Wide Receiver Allen Lazard Could Reunite with Aaron Rodgers on the Pittsburgh Steelers

Early on Wednesday morning, it was announced that the Pittsburgh Steelers had agreed to trade wide receiver George Pickens to the Dallas Cowboys. The Steelers, of course, have been heavily linked to Rodgers, who was released by the Jets earlier this offseason.
Even though Pittsburgh added two-time Pro Bowl wide receiver DK Metcalf earlier this year, the substraction of Pickens leaves room on their roster for another higher-profile pass catcher.
And Mike Florio believes the team may try to acquire Lazard from New York:
“Per a source with knowledge of the situation, Jets receiver Allen Lazard is ‘in play’ to be traded to the Steelers.
“Why Lazard? Because Rodgers completely and totally trusts him. And Lazard, for whatever reason, performs much better with Rodgers than he does without him. (At one point during his first year in New York, during Rodgers’s season-long injury absence, Lazard became a healthy scratch.)”
Also earlier this offseason, Lazard agreed to a massive pay cut with the Jets, slashing his 2025 salary from $11 million to $2.5 million. Only $1.75 million of that is guaranteed.
In other words, Pittsburgh would be acquiring a wide receiver Rodgers loves and trusts, and they would not need to pay him very much.
