“No;” Former Green Bay Packers Star Aaron Rodgers Refuses to Sign with 1 QB-Needy Team

Former Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers, a four-time NFL MVP and future Pro Football Hall of Famer, is a free agent for the first time in his 20-year career. A little over two years ago, the Packers traded Rodgers to the New York Jets in order to hand the keys of their offense over to Jordan Love, whom they had selected in the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft.

Rodgers’ two seasons with the Jets were, to put it plainly, a disappointment. He missed virtually the entire 2023 season with a torn Achilles and was just 5-12 in New York in 2024. With a new head coach and general manager, the Jets decided to take their franchise in a different direction. They released Rodgers with a post-June 1 designation.

After being released by New York, there were some questions regarding whether or not Rodgers even wanted to play in the NFL in 2025. As has been the case for the past several years, he has been heavily contemplating retirement. In fact, right before his trade to the Jets, Rodgers admitted that he came out of his darkness retreat 90% retired.

But, as was the case then, the decision by his team to move on without him on their own terms has seemingly taken retirement off the table. And while he has not officially announced anything one way or another, all signs point to the 10-time Pro Bowler signing with the Pittsburgh Steelers.

While the New York Giants showed interest in him early on, it is the Steelers who remain as the only team that Rodgers has visited with, and who have extended him an offer. Furthermore, the former Packers quarterback recently said, in answer to a question about ever playing for the Chicago Bears, he is interested in a team that is visiting Chicago on a road trip this year (the Steelers travel to play the Bears in Week 10).

In that same question-and-answer session, though, Rodgers did reveal that there is one other NFL team that he will not sign with, even if they extended an offer.

The session, which took place in Austin, Texas, saw fans from various NFL teams ask Rodgers a variety of questions. One New Orleans Saints fan asked him if he would ever consider signing with her team and restoring them to their former glory.

His answer was short and succinct: “No.”

Q: “Would you ever consider playing for the Saints?”

    Aaron: “NO…. NO.”

    DAMN.

The Saints, as fans may recall, suddenly found themselves with serious questions at quarterback when Derek Carr injured his shoulder during an offseason workout and promptly announced his retirement.

Currently, New Orleans has Tyler Shough, whom they drafted in the second round of this year’s NFL Draft, slated as QB1 on their depth chart. Additionally, they have 2024 fifth round pick Spencer Rattler, who started six games for them last season, listed as their primary backup.

When Carr first announced his retirement, there were some who thought that Rodgers could be an option for New Orleans. Obviously, that quarterback does not feel the same way.
