After winning the SEC title, Georgia football will enjoy a first-round bye in the College Football Playoff. On Saturday, the Georgia Bulldogs beat the Texas Longhorns in overtime 22-19, securing their second win this season against the conference foe. Georgia, the now-two-seed in the CFP, rallied to win despite an injury to starting quarterback Carson Beck that kept him from playing in the second half. The Bulldogs turned to sophomore quarterback Gunner Stockton, with the signal-caller leading the team on a six-play walk-off touchdown drive in the extra period.
Following the win, Georgia football celebrated their victory at midfield, donning SEC title shirts and hats. In an on-field interview, Georgia head coach Kirby Smart talked about his excitement about having his team have some time off after facing what he deemed a lopsided conference schedule. On the heels of Smart’s interview, college football fans bashed Smart for his comments.
Georgia Football HC In the Crosshairs of Fans
According to Brad Logan of the 247Sports:
Kirby Smart throws a dagger directly at SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey.
Greg Sankey wasn’t pleased. I don’t think they’ll be exchanging Christmas cards.
The Georgia football team will enjoy some time off after securing a first-round bye in the College Football Playoff via an SEC Championship game win. Georgia will welcome the first-round bye, with quarterback Carson Beck going down with an upper-body injury on the second quarter’s final play, missing the remainder of the game. Beck finished the regular season with 3,485 passing yards, 28 touchdowns, and 12 picks.
Following the win, Georgia Bulldogs head coach Kirby Smart took aim at his conference commissioner, Greg Sankey. Smart claims his team needs rest after ridiculing his conference schedule, saying, “Greg Sankey has had sent them on the road all year.” However, Georgia played six home games this season, compared to four road games and two neutral site games. Of the four road games, Georgia football faced Kentucky, Alabama, Ole Miss, and Texas, going 2-2 in those contests. Three of those four teams went on to finish the year ranked. Regardless, especially with Georgia only playing four true road games, fans clowned Smart for taking a shot at his league commissioner:
Kirby has to be the most annoying coach in the SEC

Who cares when the SEC is still allowed to continue to play an 8 game conference schedule when others like the B10 play 9. #SEC @joelklatt

He does realize he won today’s game in…., wait for it….. Georgia, doesn’t he?

Kirby cries way more than he used to

Kirby seems to have forgotten the cake walk schedule he had in 2023 and that all those treacherous road games will become home games next year….

You played 4 road games. FOUR!! Cry a little harder why don't you! None of your non conference games were on the road. One 'neutral' game in Atlanta. Then the conference championship game was 'neutral' in Atlanta. Hate when the elite cry so much how hard things are for them

Dude gets basically a bye week 11 against FCS schools then plays an ACC team and he’s crying about rest.
— bd (@bdactual) December 8, 2024
4 out of 13 games were true road games. That dude literally has to find any and everything to whine about😂😂😂

Kirby is my least favorite coach. That includes Steve Kerr and Dan Hurley.

Didn’t Georgia go decades without playing a single game outside of the Deep South?

The amount of one sidedness and pettiness is incredible! How many teams this season played more top ranked teams on the road? The primary issue here isn’t that only five road games were on the schedule… it’s that almost of those were against top 10 teams.
