Tension is tight around the Georgia football program. Despite entering the weekend with a 4-1 record and eyeing a third College Football Playoff berth in three of the past four seasons, the Georgia Bulldogs remain in the national spotlight partially because of their alarming legal issues. With six players arrested this season for DUI or assault of an unborn child, Georgia had had over 50 run-ins with the law since head coach Kirby Smart took the position in 2016. However, the issues have only gradually increased in recent memory despite a player and staff member dying in a reckless driving incident in 2023.
The constant legal problems seem to have taken a toll on Smart, with the frontman losing his cool on an opposing player in Saturday’s 41-31 win over the Mississippi State Bulldogs. Smart forcefully pushed a Mississippi State player while arguing with a referee during Saturday’s win, resulting in fans putting the lead man on blast for his behavior.
Fans Blast Georgia Football HC Kirby Smart For Outrageous Antics
According to SEC Mike on Twitter:
Kirby Smart just pushed Mississippi State quarterback Michael Van Buren. No penalty was called. The quarterback would have been tossed if it had been the other way around.
Late in the fourth quarter, Georgia held a commanding 41-24 lead over the Mississippi State Bulldogs, and opposing quarterback Michael Van Buren evaded pressure before picking up seven yards and stepping out of bounds alongside the Georgia football sideline. In what looked to be an attempt to forcefully get the attention of the refs, his defense, or both, Georgia Bulldogs head coach Kirby Smart pushed Van Buren, knocking the signal caller unbalanced.
The push, in which Smart fully extended his arms, shocked Van Buren but also stunned the college football fanbase. Many took exception to Smart’s actions, regardless of the underlying intentions. With the video quickly making its rounds on Twitter, fans, even those with Georgia football, did not hold back when putting the bench boss on blast:

I don’t understand the argument of whether it was intentional or not – I’d argue a lot of penalties called aren’t intentional, but that doesn’t make them any less of a penalty.
