San Francisco 49ers players have been busy addressing the media during Super Bowl Opening Day, and George Kittle is among the Niners players who have been addressing questions from the media.
One of the biggest questions asked was the approach the Niners will take to beat the Kansas City Chiefs, and Kittle’s answer is both expected and confident.
Kittle: San Francisco 49ers will drive offense through Christian McCaffrey
The NFL posted a video that had the 30-year-old tight end answering questions from 11-year-old sports journalist Jeremiah Fennell about his team’s chances to win the Super Bowl.
Fennell went straight for the jugular and asked what the 49ers should do to avenge their Super Bowl LIV loss.
“I’d say my offensive game plan is to get Christian McCaffrey the ball a lot,” Kittle answered after acknowledging Fennell’s question as a great one. “Every time he touches the ball, he goes for 75 yards and a touchdown. So I’m gonna try my best to block my best for him and get him as many touches as he can.”
George Kittle wasn’t wrong when pointing out Kittle’s importance to the team’s offense. McCaffrey was one of the best running backs in the NFL, finishing the 2023 season with 1459 rushing yards and 14 rushing touchdowns. He was also a solid outlet for Brock Purdy, completing 67 receptions for 564 yards and 7 touchdowns.
Brock Purdy’s consistency and confidence won team over, says Kittle
During the same interview, Fennell asked about the impact Purdy made on the team and what allowed him to win the locker room.
“What he does at a really, really high level, he shows up every day, he’s the same guy, he’s very consistent,” Kittle says of his quarterback. “He’s had a routine since he’s been a rookie, and that is the most important thing.”
He also addressed how Purdy quickly won the locker room: “I think the locker room liked him from the start. But when he got his opportunity, when he first stepped into the huddle, he was confident. He was confident [in] his ability, and it just kinda raised the level of confidence behind us.”
Purdy did step up in his first full season as San Francisco 49ers’ starting QB, completing 308 passes for 4280 passing yards and 31 TDs. Some of those numbers can be accredited to Kittle, who also had a solid year at 1020 receiving yards and 6 TDs.
With the way the Niners are stepping up at the moment, it’s understandable why some consider them favorites to win the Super Bowl. However, they know better than anyone to not let their guard down against a perennial winner like the Kansas City Chiefs.
