As the November presidential election approaches, political debate starts to leak into all facets of life.

In the wake of a Georgia school shooting that resulted in a coach on the high school football team’s death, legendary Florida Gators head coach Steve Spurrier spoke out on a political subject about which he feels strongly.

Legendary Florida Gators HC did not hold back

As a former coach himself, Spurrier said the death of assistant football coach Richard “Ricky” Aspinwall struck a chord with him.

Spurrier then proceeded to go on a long-winded rant about how AR-15s are tools used only for mass shootings. Spurrier did say he supports gun ownership for self-protection but reiterated that AR-15s are for more than that.

The GOAT. I know a lot of people disagree, but I couldn’t have said it any better myself. pic.twitter.com/pjlprBDAZe

Florida Gators fans had mixed responses about Steve Spurrier’s rant

The strong statement from Spurrier sparked all kinds of responses from Florida football fans. Some expressed pride in one of their favorite football figures of all time for his anti-AR-15 stance while others expressed massive disappointment in Spurrier.

Coach, I have one. Never shot anyone or anything other than a target with it. Problem is, every time someone starts talking about taking guns away, they start selling them like crazy. You’re still the GOAT no matter what you say! Love you!

It’s called the 2nd amendment and it is not to be infringed on by government in any manner – It is there for the people to defend themselves from those who do harm and also against tyrannical government – the shooter in GA was not old enough to buy a gun and it has now come out…

    AMEN!
After three years of DeSantis humiliation at @UF finally truth.

God d**n, I didn’t think I could love that man anymore than I already did.
