The Florida Gators are having a season they wish they could forget after losing two of their first three games to start the year.
Almost three weeks ago, Miami walked into the Swamp and beat the Gators up and down the field, and then just this past weekend, Texas A&M came into town with their backup quarterback and had their way with them.
Florida doesn’t have much to feel good about now, but their true freshman quarterback, DJ Lagway, has looked very impressive every time he has taken the field.
Head coach Billy Napier will most likely lose his job at the end of the season, so the Gators will be looking for a new coach this offseason. Former head coach Urban Meyer shot down any possibility of returning to the Gators.
Florida is home to some special playmakers, but sadly, their team’s best offensive weapon will be missing this week.
Florida Loses Star Receiver
According to multiple reports, wide receiver Eugene Wilson will be out this week against Mississippi State, which is a major blow to an offense trying to get going.Wilson also missed last week’s game against the Aggies and still leads the team in targets and receptions this season.
Nick de la Torre from On3.com stated Napier’s full quote about losing Wilson this weekend, and here is what the head coach had to say.
“We’re definitely a better team with Tre Wilson for sure,” Florida Gators head coach Billy Napier said. “But I do think Dike and Badger, in particular, stepped up in a major way. We have the ability to in formation plays to get the primary guys in position, much like we’ve done the past. We’ll take what we have each week and we’ll formation it and try to make those guys a primary and secondary. And then the tight end group has been great and obviously the backs. We’ve got to continue to create ways to get the ball to the best players. But I think last week, it’s a heck of a week for Dike and Badger. I thought they did a good job. Who’s the third? I think that’s the question mark. I think those guys will have a little opportunity this week.”

Florida needs all the help it can get right now, and losing their best playmaker is something they can’t afford now. The Gators are about to head down a difficult road in the next few months, playing top teams like Georgia, Tennessee, Texas, LSU, and Ole Miss, and they need all the star power they can get.
