From 1996 to 2009, the Florida football program won at least 10 games eight times while securing three national championships. During that span, Florida placed in the final AP Poll in all but two seasons while quarterbacks Danny Wuerffel and Tim Tebow secured Heisman Trophy Awards. Fast forward to 2024, and the Florida Gators posted their first winning record in three years. Albeit flush with talent, Florida did not get going in the wins department until the third season of the Billy Napier era. Despite a career campaign with the Gators last year, Napier still has a lot of work to do in Gainesville, per the media.
On Thursday, one media outlet posted the ten programs with the most pressure heading into the 2025 season. Among the ten teams, five of which were members of the SEC, one was the Florida football program.

Last year, the Florida football program won eight games for the first time since their final full year under head coach Dan Mullen. Florida finished the season on a four-game winning streak, including two ranked wins over SEC foes. Among them was a massive 24-17 win over the Ole Miss Rebels, effectively ending their hopes of a 2024 College Football Playoff bid. However, Ari Wasserman of On3 Sports believes Florida is one of the teams under the most pressure entering next season.
Of their four wins to start last year, three came against foes that finished the year with four or fewer wins. Their other victory came against the Samford Bulldogs of the FCS ranks. To finish the year, Florida beat a Tulane Green Wave team absent starting quarterback Darian Mensah. The Gators finished SEC play 4-4, marking their fourth straight season without a winning record in conference play.
Conversely, Florida played without quarterback Graham Mertz for most of the season. Head coach Billy Napier turned to five-star passer DJ Lagway, who showed signs of brilliance during his true freshman campaign. Additionally, Florida football will usher in the 8th-ranked recruiting class, per 247Sports, giving the former SEC juggernaut the ammo to make a run at the CFP.
