Now that fantasy football drafts are in the rearview mirror and the 2024 NFL season kicks off with the Baltimore Ravens taking on the Kansas City Chiefs, the time is now to scour the waiver wire for undervalued players and prospects with upside to fill out your roster.
Arizona Cardinals tight end Trey McBride has steadily improved each of his first two seasons, and as the 24-year-old enters his third season coinciding with the arrival of potentially elite playmaking rookie receiver Marvin Harrison Jr. in quarterback Kyler Murray’s supporting cast, one former NFL player believes McBride becomes a household name by season’s end.
“I love Trey McBride,” former Philadelphia Eagles and Jacksonville Jaguars tight end Clay Harbor told me during an appearance on the Between The Hashmarks Podcast. “When you bring in Marvin Harrison Jr., you open up the field a little bit. Plus, Kyler Murray’s back healthy. It’s going to help Trey a lot. Watching his tape, he’s pretty good.”
Trey McBride’s Case as Fantasy Football Breakout Star
Through two seasons, McBride has caught 110 passes for 1,090 yards and four touchdowns, including emerging as a security blanket for Arizona quarterbacks last season by catching 81 passes for 825 yards and three scores.
While McBride was charged with four dropped passes by Pro Football Focus, Cardinals quarterbacks still posted a whopping 92.8 passer rating when targeting him.
As defenses need to respect Harrison Jr.’s ability to take the top off a secondary as a big-play threat, McBride could develop into a favorite and reliable target for Murray.
