NFL fans reacted to the Kansas City Chiefs offering what some would appear to believe is a bribe for citizens in Jackson County to vote for more taxes. The Chiefs have been vocal proponents of a provision to pass that would extend a 3/8-cent tax through 2064 to pay for upgrades at their stadium and a new ballpark for the Kansas City Royals.
The Kansas City Chiefs have a CBA
As previously discussed on GH, Mike Florio with NBC Sports wrote the community benefits agreement the Chiefs recently released on their website, which appears to be a “bribe” to citizens. The CBA would give $266 million to citizens of Jackson Country:
The Kansas City Chiefs and the Kansas City Royals would pay the citizens of Jackson County, Missouri $266 million via a Community Benefits Agreement (CBA) if they get the tax vote they want.
Donovan took to the team’s website to explain how the CBA would work.
“A Community Benefits Agreement is an extremely important part of a project like this, and it’s wide-reaching,” said Chiefs President Mark Donovan. “The headline is that it covers a commitment by the teams of $266 million in spending toward community programs in Jackson County, but it also covers things that are very newsworthy to our unions, construction trades and workforce. As part of that, we’ve agreed to unprecedented MBE/WBE percentages.”
County leaders had asked the Chiefs to release their plans on the CBA for weeks.
