Last season, the Ohio State Buckeyes lost to the Michigan Wolverines when Kyle McCord was the quarterback. Many thought that McCord was the problem with the Buckeyes, so he decided to transfer from Ohio State and be the next quarterback for the Syracuse Orange.
On Saturday, McCord had a big performance for the Orange to help knock out the Miami Hurricanes of the ACC Championship Game and won by a final score of 42-38. As for Michigan, they beat the Buckeyes 13-10 on the road on Saturday and it went to show that there are much bigger issues than that.
Former Ohio State Buckeyes Quarterback Kyle McCord Makes Comments After the Game
After Syracuse beat Miami and after Ohio State lost to Michigan on Saturday, Kyle McCord spoke to the media after the game on Saturday. He had some interesting comments and said:
“Everything comes full circle.”
On Saturday, McCord completed 72.2% of his passes for 380 yards and three touchdowns. That was a much better showing than what Will Howard did on Saturday for the Buckeyes against the Wolverines. He completed 57.6% of his passes for 175 yards, one touchdown, and two interceptions. This goes to show that this is not a quarterback issue with the Buckeyes but a coaching problem.
Head coach Ryan Day and offensive coordinator Chip Kelly are a bigger issue for the Buckeyes than the quarterbacks on the roster.
Comparing 2023 and 2024 Stats For Both Quarterbacks
Kyle McCord had a much better 2024 season with the Orange than he did with the Buckeyes in 2023. McCord this season completed 65.8% of his passes for 4,326 yards, 29 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions. Last season with Ohio State, he completed 65.8% of his passes for 3,170 yards, 24 touchdowns, and six interceptions.
McCord last season had a better year with the Buckeyes compared to what Will Howard did this season. Howard completed 72.3% of his passes for 2,860 yards, 27 touchdowns, and eight interceptions. The season before, he was with the Kansas State Wildcats. Will Howard completed 61.3% of his passes for 2,643 yards, 24 touchdowns, and 10 interceptions.
In reality, the Buckeyes downgraded at quarterback from a season ago and the Orange improved. This is one of the reasons why Ohio State fans want Ryan Day fired as head coach.
