The Minnesota Vikings finished the regular season with a 14-3 record and they will head on the road and face the Los Angeles Rams in the NFC Wild Card Round. Minnesota lost to the Detroit Lions on Sunday night football.

Detroit Lions defensive end Levi Onwuzurike (91) pressures Minnesota Vikings quarterback Sam Darnold (14) during the second half at Ford Field in Detroit on Sunday, Jan. 5, 2025.

This year, quarterback Sam Darnold took the league by storm in a season where many people thought J.J. McCarthy was going to start at some point before he tore his meniscus during the preseason. McCarthy could potentially have some trade suitors this NFL offseason.

ESPN’s Mike Greenberg Thinks That the Minnesota Vikings Will Keep Sam Darnold And Trade J.J. McCarthy This Offseason

A lot of people are asking whether or not the Vikings will hang onto Sam Darnold after the season is over for them. With J.J. McCarthy potentially waiting in the wings, many wonder if Minnesota will trade him this offseason or not. On Tuesday, ESPN’s Mike Greenberg went onto the Pat McAfee show to talk about the future of the Minnesota Vikings quarterback room.

Greenberg said about the future of Darnold and McCarthy in Minnesota:

“I think Sam Darnold has proved that he’s more than good enough in this Vikings offense.. I think Minnesota will look to trade JJ McCarthy.”

There have been some reports over the last couple of weeks that the Vikings could very well trade McCarthy and keep Darnold. It would be interesting to see if Minnesota would sign Sam Darnold to a long-term extension or if they would franchise tag him.

Why does ESPN and the national sports media keep doing this? They made up stories about Jefferson getting traded. They made up stories about KOC getting traded and now they are pushing this. I swear they do this the smaller market teams all the time.

They’re moving off Darnold unless he makes a crazy playoff run, did you miss the Lions game??

Respectfully, Greenie has thought the Jets were going to win the Super Bowl for the past 20 years.

One team that fans also mentioned where J.J. McCarthy could be traded to is the Las Vegas Raiders. Las Vegas needs a franchise quarterback. Two other teams to watch for in the McCarthy sweepstakes are the New York Giants and the Seattle Seahawks. The Minnesota Vikings quarterback room is going to be a story worth watching this offseason, especially if Sam Darnold is brought back for 2025 and beyond.
