The Miami Dolphins entered the 2024 season fully expecting to compete in the AFC conference for the opportunity to go to the Super Bowl. After winning 11 games in 2023, many expected this team to once again be competitive this year.
However, yet another Tua Tagovailoa concussion has completely thrown off Miami’s expectations and they’re currently in limbo to see how this season plays out. Now, they’re announcing even more troubling news ahead of their week four matchup against the Tennessee Titans.
Dolphins’ 2024 Campaign Just Went From Bad To Worse (Report)
According to NFL Reporter Cameron Wolfe:
Dolphins HC Mike McDaniel said QB Skylar Thompson is day-to-day with a rib injury. Important next 48 hours to determine if he’s able to play Monday vs. Titans. If not, they will start Tim Boyle or Snoop Huntley.
McDaniel said they will continue evaluating outside QB options too.
After consecutive losses to the Buffalo Bills and Seattle Seahawks, Miami is 1-2. They scored just three points in their loss to Seattle on Sunday. After injuries to Tua Tagovailoa and Skylar Thompson, who suffered rib injuries in Sunday’s 24-3 loss, the team has suffered injuries to their top two quarterbacks on the roster.
According to Jason Owens of Yahoo Sports:
If healthy, Thompson is the top option against Tennessee. That’s unclear two days after his injury. McDaniel said that the team would evaluate Thompson’s condition over the next 48 hours.
“I would say that Skylar’s more day to day,” McDaniel said.
If Thompson can’t go, that leaves the Dolphins down to third-string quarterback Tim Boyle and Tyler Huntley, whom the Dolphins signed last Monday off the Baltimore Ravens’ practice squad after Tagovailoa’s injury.
Boyle finished Sunday’s loss to the Seahawks following Thompson’s injury. He completed 7 of 13 passes for 79 yards (6.1 yards per attempt) without a touchdown or turnover after Thompson’s injury early in the third quarter. Boyle took one sack, and the Dolphins did not score while he was in the game.
Thompson didn’t fare much better before his injury. He completed 13 of 19 passes for 107 yards without a touchdown or turnover. He took five sacks for a loss of 37 yards and led the Dolphins to a single field goal.
