The Detroit Lions are going to be one of the most interesting teams to watch when the 2024 NFL season kicks off. After making a run all the way to the NFC Championship Game last year, the expectations are sky high for the franchise.
Many believe that the Lions are a favorite to contend for the Super Bowl this season. Others think that Detroit will end up showing regression this year.
No one can argue that the Detroit Lions don’t have a lot of talent. Brad Holmes and the front office have done an excellent job of stacking the roster with as much talent as possible. On both sides of the football, they’re loaded with talented players.
Could they look to continue adding to their talent before the start of the season?
Detroit Lions Trade For All-Pro Defender In Blockbuster Proposal
Bleacher Report has come up with a list of potential trades that would impact the playoff race in 2024. They have one suggested for the Lions.
In their suggested proposal for Detroit, the Lions would be acquiring All-Pro safety Budda Baker from the Arizona Cardinals in exchange for a 2025 fifth-round pick and a 2026 seventh-round pick.
“The Cardinals get more in this perspective deal than they would in compensatory picks. The Lions shore up their biggest defensive weakness with a six-time Pro Bowler. And Baker gets to play for a team with a good chance of making a trip to New Orleans in February.”
Baker would be a massive upgrade for the Lions’ secondary.
During the 2023 season with the Cardinals, Baker racked up 87 total tackles. It was a down season for him, but he played in 12 games and there have been some issues between Baker and the team.
Back in 2022, however, he recorded 111 total tackles, a forced fumble, two interceptions, and even defended passes.
When he is healthy and in a good situation, Baker is one of the best safeties in the NFL. Joining a talented defense and a legitimate contender like the Detroit Lions could do wonders for his career.
There is no guarantee that Detroit will even consider pursuing this kind of trade, but it would make sense. Baker would help take the Lions’ defense to another level.
