The Detroit Lions have had a couple of sensational offensive rookies this season. One of them is TE Sam LaPorta. Unfortunately, the Lions have received devastating news about LaPorta in Week 18.
Sam LaPorta Suffers a Knee Injury
In the second quarter against the Minnesota Vikings, LaPorta went down on the field and appeared to be in pain. Afterward, he was taken to the medical tent and then carted off to the locker room to be further evaluated. According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, LaPorta is dealing with a knee injury. He has now been ruled out for the rest of the game.
Detroit Lions Moving Forward
In the grand scheme of things, the Detroit Lions have little to play for in this game. The Lions entered this game 11-5. They were attempting to move up to the second seed from their current third seed.
However, if LaPorta’s injury turns out to be significant, fans may start questioning the judgment of Detroit head coach Dan Campbell. This tends to be one of the risks of playing your starters in a gain with little to gain. Now, Detroit could very well face the repercussions of this move. All of this after LaPorta broke a rookie record earlier in this game.
