The Detroit Lions are tied for first place in the NFC North with a 5-1 record following their exciting 31-29 win over the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday. They will look to build on their early season success when they play the Tennessee Titans in Week Eight and the Green Bay Packers, who are a half-game behind them at 5-2, in Week Nine.
Unfortunately for Detroit, they will have to play these next two games without wide receiver Jameson Williams. The third-year wide receiver, who has missed significant already in his young career due to suspension and injury, has been suspended by the NFL for violating their policy on performance enhancing substances.
He had one catch for -4 yards in Detroit’s win over Minnesota.
Detroit Lions Wide Receiver Jameson Williams Says He Will “Take It on the Chin” Following Announcement of 2-Game Suspension
After being drafted by the Lions in the first round (12th overall pick) in the 2022 NFL Draft, Williams missed the first 11 games of his career as he recovered from an ACL injury he suffered in college. In the six games he did play towards the end of that season, he had just one reception for 41 yards. That one catch, though, was a touchdown.
In his second season, Williams was suspended four games for violating the NFL’s policy on gambling. He ended up playing 12 games, catching 24 passes for 354 yards and two touchdowns.
This season, Williams is second on the Lions in receiving yards (361) and receiving touchdowns (three).
According to Eric Woodyard, who covers the Lions for ESPN, “Williams is disappointed with the current suspension but says he has ‘no choice but to take it on the chin.’
“‘I’m in good spirits just ready to get back with [my] brothers ASAP soon as possible,'” the third-year pass catcher said.
As one might expect, Lions fans are not too thrilled.
Detroit Lions Fans Drag Jameson Williams on Social Media
While missing the first 11 games of his rookie season due to his ACL recovery was understandable, Williams’ suspension for gambling last year and his new suspension for using performance enhancing substances reflect are inexcusable.
Lions fans let him know how they felt on social media:

What?
1. This sucks.
2. Why is it only two games? Aren’t these usually like six game suspensions? https://t.co/LNXO0q4Lfo

It has not yet been revealed what substances Williams took that resulted in this suspension. However, he is not appealing the suspension, which means that he clearly knows that what he did was wrong.
