Deshaun Watson has been the worst quarterback in the NFL through the first six weeks of the season, and there isn’t much he can do to save his career.
The game has looked like it has passed Watson by, and there is a great chance this will be his last season as a starter in the NFL.
Deshaun Watson Is The Worst Quarterback In the NFL
Watson has thrown for 1,020 yards, five touchdowns, and three interceptions this season, but the offense has not been able to score more than two touchdowns in a game.
Cleveland’s season is over, and the Browns have major issues. They still have to pay Watson’s guaranteed money in 2025 and 2026.
Watson has been so bad this season that he isn’t even ranked in the top 32 quarterbacks in the NFL, meaning there are backups ranked higher than him. The Ringers’ Steven Ruiz released his quarterback rankings heading into Week Seven and has Watson at 34.
Ruiz didn’t have many great things to say about the 29-year-old quarterback, and why would he? Here is what Ruiz said about Brown’s starting quarterback.
it still feels odd to talk about Deshaun Watson as a football player. But even if we must, there’s not much to talk about right now. His game in Houston was always a bit of a high-wire act, and now that he’s lost the pocket presence and seemingly most of the arm talent that made him successful there, he’s no longer able to pull it off. Watson doesn’t have quite the same zip on his throws that he once did. He’s more easily fooled by defenses. He’s still fairly athletic, but he’s not making enough plays in those situations to make up for the high number of sacks they produce. He doesn’t have a skill set to play efficient football. That may explain why Cleveland’s offense has performed better without him since he joined the team.
Watson will never return to the player he was in Houston, and Cleveland will have to make a move off of him this offseason.
There is no reason to let Watson play a single snap for the team after this year, and the only reason they should keep playing him this season is so they can tank and end up with the first overall pick.
Cleveland will have to go back to the drawing board to find its new quarterback, and it might have to do it in the NFL Draft, where it hasn’t had much success.
